June 2003

SUMMER TOUR OF SWEDEN

We hear that Celtic will be playing in Sweden during the close season. The news is that they will hold a training camp in Gothenburg for a few days. They will play a friendly againgst GAIS on 8th July at Gamla Ullevi. Next, it's on to Helsingborg - birth place of the King of Kings - where it is rumoured that Henrik will play for both teams in a friendly on 10th July. Remember and check back here after the tour for information on any programme issues during the tour.

PROGRAMME MONTHLY JUNE 2003 ISSUE 267

The June 2003 issue of Programme Monthly is out. Nothing much about Celtic inside but still a good read. One interesting article is about Scottish clubs appearing in European finals and the programmes issued.

ST PAULI BENEFIT MATCH PETITION

Hamburg side, F.C St. Pauli have unfortunately been relegated to division 3 in Germany and are suffering financial hardship. St. Pauli fans regularly travel long distances across Europe to follow Celtic as comrades against racism and fascism in football. This petition asks Celtic F.C to organise a benefit match against St.Pauli. Please sign the petition.

MORE UEFA FINAL PROGRAMMES

Two other pirates for the UEFA Cup Fina have appeared. One of them is being sold on ebay or click here to see a quick picture of it. The other one is a production of "The Dutch Bhoys" - a group of guys from Holland that follow Celtic around Europe. The programme was on sale in Seville click here for a picture of TDB. Word is that there was also a VIP edition of the official match programme available at the game. More news on this if/as we get it.

UEFA CUP FINAL PROGRAMMES

Three pirates and an official programme were on sale at the Olimpico on Wednesday night. The official was a complete sell-out and the pirates were very difficult to get. More info here soon. Please use the picture on the right to see the programmes.

FIRST OF THE UEFA FINAL PROGRAMMES

If your going to Seville and leaving by Glasgow airport, you will be able to buy the first programme to surface for the UEFA Cup final. The programme is not a pirate as it is being sold at the airport with permission of the airport authorities. The programme cost £4 and although it has only twenty pages, it is fairly well produced. It looks like it will also be on sale in Spain but the price will rise to ten euros if you buy it there. Click here for a quick picture of the Limited Edition Souvenir Programme. DUNDEE HOME SPL 14/05/03 - BACK ON TOP

With the Spanish flag as a background on the match programme once again and JOOS as the featured player, Celtic went three points above their nearest challengers and increased their goal difference value by two. See a picture of the match ticket.

HEARTS HOME SPL 10/05/03 - CLEAR AT THE TOP

Viva Espania played at the start of the match and the Spanish flag as a background on the match programme, the build up to the UEFA Cup final in Seville continued today with a 1-0 victory against the wee huns. The win takes Celtic 3 points clear at the top and the pressure is now on Rangers to beat Kilmarnock at Ibrox tomorrow.

CELTIC BACK IN THEIR FIRST PLACE SPL SPOT

Celtic kicked Rangers off of top spot in the SPL by thrashing the Motherwell sados 4-0 at Fir Park last night. On the worst pitch in the league and after a slow start to the game, Celtic burst into a 4-0 lead through two goals each from Stan Petrov and the Celtic captain Paul Lambert. All four goals were top quality and we now look too strong for the crumbling Govan challenge. Motherwell issued a completely new programme for this rearranged match making the few programmes that were sold for the original 15th of February match quite scarce. CELTS KEEP THE PRESSURE ON

Celtic moved to just two points behind Rangers with a fine win at East End Park (03/05/03). The pars issued their usual 48 page match programme for this SPL game. See a copy of the match ticket.

APRIL 2003

TAL 35 ON SALE AT IBROX

THE IBROX BOTTLE CRASHES 27/04/03

Super Celts went to Ibrox today and gubbed the Rangers. Goals from Alan Thompson and Big John Hartson gave the Celts a 2-0 lead before half-time and the game was over. BLACK PANTHERS GET THEIR CLAWS CUT 21/04/03

Celtic made it through to the final of the 2003 UEFA Cup on Thursday thanks to a fantastic goal scored by King Henrik of Sweden. In the City of Porto, which has hundreds of statues in honour of it's own first King Henrique, thousands of Celtic fans celebrated long into the night with the fans of FC Porto - Celtic's opponents in the final.

MARCH 2003

INVERNESS C.T. SCOTTISH CUP 23/03/03
Caley ruined a great week for Celtic fans by knocking Celtic out of the Cup at the Caledonian Stadium tonight. An overpriced, 32 page, colour match programme was issued at £1.50. Although it is a nice looking programme, it had no less than twenty two full pages of adverts inside. See a picture of the match programme and ticket. Good luck to Caley in the next round.

LIVERPOOL NOT GOOD ENOUGH
Celtic reached the semi-final stage of the EUFA Cup for the first time ever by thrashing English giants Liverpool on their own turf. Alan Thompson scored a fantastic free kick before half-time and Big John Hartson scored Celtic's second goal late in the game to kill off the red challenge. CIS FINAL 16/03/03

CELTIC Vs. LIVERPOOL UEFA Cup 13/03/03
For the first time this season, Celtic issued a special programme for a UEFA Cup match. See a quick picture of the Liverpool match programme and ticket.

RE-ARRANGED FIXTURES
Hearts v Celtic at Tynecastle has been re-scheduled to Saturday 19th April. Motherwell at Fir Park will be played on May 7. It now looks like we will be asked to play Rangers at Ibrox without having the chance to get three points from this game and put pressure on them.

BOAVISTA PROMISE MORE TICKETS
Celtic have negotiated a 15% share of available tickets for their Uefa Cup semi-final in Portugal this month. Boavista's Estadio do Bessa is currently being renovated for use during Euro 2004, meaning capacity is reduced to 15,000. Under Uefa regulations, Celtic are entitled to only 5% of the tickets - 750 - but after discussions between the clubs, the Scottish champions have secured 2,200 tickets.

RANGERS SPL 08/03/03

Big John Hartson scored in front of his International team boss Mark Hughes to give Celtic a 1-0 win over Rangers today (8/03/03). See a quick copy of the match programme.

CELTIC DRAW BOAVISTA OF PORTUGAL
Celtic were paired with Boavista in the semi-final draw of the UEFA Cup today (21/02/03). As with every other European tie this season, Celtic will play the first leg at Celtic Park. If Celtic make the final in Seville, they will be the home team. Ties to played on 10 and 24 April. Get your ticket for the final in Sevilla at the EUFA.COM Web site.

Celtic U21's played Hill Of Beath Hawthorn on Sunday 2 March in a testimonial friendly for Beath player Bruce Deas. A programme was issued for the match in small numbers. More on this later.

MARCH PROGRAMME MONTHLY
Issue 264 of PM is now on sale. Although the mag is full of interesting articles, Celtic interest is confined to a review of the Lisbon Lions Benefit match programme and the programmes from the 1982/83 League Cup semi-final against Dundee Utd. As usual there lots of Celtic programmes and other memorabilia for sale or auction in the advertising supplement.

FEBRUARY 2003

VfB STUTTGART UEFA CUP 27/02/03
Stuttgart issued an official programme for the 4th round UEFA cup match in Germany. A pirate programme was also on sale at several locations - the city, airport and stadium. Don't encourage the Rangers fans at the Daily Record by buying their biased rag - read a fair match report at the UEFA Web site.

VfB STUTTGART UEFA CUP 20/02/03
Celtic issued the usual style programme for the 4th round UEFA cup match at Celtic Park. Stuttgart, who are in third place in the Bundeslega, were gubbed 3-1 by the super Celts. CSA 57th ANNUAL RALLY
The Celtic Supporters Association issued a small sized, 32 page programme for the annual rally held in the Royal Concert Hall on Sunday 9th February 2003. The programme cover feature the guest of honour Paul Lambert. Click here to see the programme.

Issue 12 of the More than 90mins fanzine was on sale at Hampden for the CIS Semi final match with Dundee United 6/02/03.

DUNDEE UTD CIS SEMI 6/02/03
36 pages in full colour and has a nicely designed front cover. See a quick picture of the match programme and the match ticket. It was quite difficult to buy this programme at the match and the few vendors that were there, didn't have many for sale.

Martin O'Neill received a 1 match European ban and a £4,500 fine from the maddies at UEFA. - 8/2/03.

Issue 263 of PM is now on sale. Aberdeen's centenary issue for the match against Celtic on the 2nd of January is reviewed and the featured match tickets are from Celtic games. As usual there is a fair spattering of Celtic programmes and other memorabilia for sale or auction in the advertising supplement.

ISSUE 17 alternative VIEW 21/01//03
The latest issue of the aV mag has a picture of the KOK's celebrating another goal and a yellow headline - "DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT SELLING LARSSON".This first issue of 2003 is crammed with non-Celtic View type reading, the fans hit back at The Daily Record and Spanish police brutality and there is a 6 page interview with Bobby Lennox. SCOTTISH CUP 4TH ROUND DRAW
Celtic were the first team out of Mrs McGinn's old glass vase followed by Airdrie United or St Johnstone. The tie will be played at Celtic park on the 22nd or 23rd of February. Rangers were the last team out and drew Ayr United away.

LISBON LIONS TRIBUTE 22/1/03

CELTA VIGO midfielder Peter Luccin has been given a four-match ban after being found guilty of spitting at John Hartson during The Galicians' UEFA Cup clash with Celtic. 16/01/03

SPL teams will play 3rd round cup ties when the Winter break ends on Saturday, 25 January, 2003.The draw is to be made on Saturday 4 January at 5.05 pm. Live on Sky Sports, BBC TV Scotland and BBC Radio Scotland. As usual, the ball for Celtic will be slightly warmer than the rest.

CHEATING SPANISH and ANOTHER WEAK UEFA REFEREE
but Celtic were good enough to send these bad losers hurtling out of the UEFA Cup. Just like that other sad loudmouth Graeme Souness, Vigo's loudmouth coach Miguel Ángel Lotina Oruechebarria was silenced by the super Celts. Although Celtic lost the match 2-1, John Hartson scored the vital away goal to give a 2-2 aggregate score. No official programme was issued.

CELTA IN THIRD PLACE
Celta beat Deportivo Alavés 2-1 this weekend 12/12/02. Edu gave Celta the lead on 21 minutes, and within two minutes the score was 2-0 as Peter Luccin scored a penalty. Alavés scored from the spot on 53 minutes, but despite intense Alavés pressure, Celta held on to move back to within five points of leaders Real Sociedad. Come on you Celts (Glasgow)!!!!

As the pathetic Hibee fans held their organised anti-Celtic protest, Stan Petrov scored to grab three vital points for the Celts. If these zeroes think that they could survive without Celtic (and Rangers), they are as clueless as our 'good friend' Monsieur Claude Colombo. MARTIN O'NEILL BANNED FOR TWO GAMES
UEFA have given the Celtic manager a two European match ban from the technical area following his sending off against RC Celta de Vigo. The two match ban allows Celtic to appeal against it. If he had received only a one match ban, this would not have been an option. As Celtic have stated that they will appeal, Martin will now be allowed in the technical area for the 2nd leg match in Vigo.

GLASGOW PROGRAMME FAIR
A Football programme and memorabilia fair is to be held on Saturday 28 December in Woodside Halls,Glasgow (bottom of Maryhill Road). The fair is to run from 11 am to 4pm and entry is free. The organisers claim that lots of dealers in all areas including stamps, postcards, coins and programmes will be there. LIVINGSTON SPL 24/11/02
Henrik's hoops went back to top spot in the SPL thanks to another two goals from the man himself. A penalty in the fifth minute and another 7 minutes from the end gave Celtic the 3 points needed to knock the minus 53 million men of our spot. CELTIC PATHE NEWS
Visit the Pathe films Web site to preview and buy classic Celtic footage to play on your PC. Among the many classic available are the 1967 Scottish Cup final against the sheep worriers and the Crowds that turned out at Glasgow airport to welcome Celtic and the European Cup back to Scotland. Amazingly, you can also see footage of a 1924 friendly match against the Irish Free State and Celtic beating Slovan Bratislava 1-0 in the first Leg of the European Cup Winners' Cup tie in 1964.

TOP OF THE LEAGUE AGAIN
Celtic moved back to their rightful place at the top of the SPL with an easy 4-0 win against PARTICK THISTLE at Celtic Park today (17/11/02). Goals from Sutton, Petrov (2) and The King Of Kings were enough to get the three points needed to knock the Govan XI of their perch. This Blackburn Rovers pirate programme for the game at Ewood Park was not sold at the match and appeared days later.

SAME OLD CELTIC .... ALWAYS WINNING
Loudmouth Souness had his badly chosen comments rammed down his throat last night (14/11/02) by captain Henrik and his super Hoops. Celtic ran amok to win the match at a canter, scoring another two goals with souness's flops failing to score AGAIN!!! They really are a poor lot of cluggers and if this is a good Premiership team then it is time that the English stopped running down the Scottish game. Let's face it if you take out Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Leeds and maybe Chelsea, the rest are average and we would back several other SPL teams against any of them. Despite being denied a certain penalty by bungling ref John Underhill, Celtic coasted to a 2-0 victory over the Arabs. As the partially sighted United fans called Henrik Larsson a cheat for being tripped in the box, Celtic scored through big John Hartson and followed with a second from Chris Sutton to win 3 points before heading for Blackburn. PARTICK THISTLE CIS 6/11/02
Celtic issued the usual type programme for the CIS League Cup match at Celtic Park against Partick. See a quick picture of the match programme and the match ticket. Programme was not a sell-out

ABERDEEN SPL 3/11/02
Celtic are back to one point from the top of the SPL after their 7-0 win at Celtic Park against Aberdeen. Goals from John Hartson (4), Henrik Larsson, Shaun Maloney and Bobo Baldé gave Celtic the three points. Suitably, the picture montage on the front cover of the programme was of Bobo Balde.

NOVEMBER PROGRAMME MONTHLY

Dunfermline issued an official match programme for the visit of Celtic on Sunday 27/10/02. The 44 paged programme cost £2. See a quick picture of the match ticket

TOO EASY FOR CELTS AS SAD HEARTS FALL
An official programme was issued for Celtic's match at sectarian Tynecastle. As the jealous and sectarian Hearts fans were hauled from the stands by police (watch out for this to be ignored by the Daily Record et al), Celtic ran riot to score four through Sutton, Petrov and Larsson (2). CIS LEAGUE CUP SEMI-FINAL DRAW
CELTIC were drawn against Livingston or Dundee Utd and Aberdeen or Hearts will play Rangers. Ties to be played on the 4th and 6th of February 2003.

INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE
The usual type official programme was issued for this CIS League Cup match played on 23/10/02. See a quick pic of the match ticket. Celtic played a reserve team to win the match 4-2.

ANOTHER SUDUVA PIRATE
A second pirate programme for Celtic's EUFA Cup match in Lithuania has turned up. The eight page programme (two are blank) was not sold at the match as it's entire contents are taken from the official and pirate programmes which were sold at the match. See a picture on the FK Suduva page.

FK SUDUVA PIRATE
FK SUDUVA issued an official programme for the UEFA Cup 2nd leg match in Lithuania. The programme is written almost entirely in Russian with a small welcome statement written in English. Click at this for a quick pic of the match ticket.
There was also a nicely produced pirate sold near the stadium. As very few pirates were sold and the official print run was only 500 copies, both programmes are sure to be difficult to get and probably quite rare. Celtic drew Partick Thistle at Celtic Park in the CIS League Cup draw which took place after the Hibs match tonight. The quarter-final ties are scheduled to be played on 5th, 6th or 7th November. Rangers drew Dunfermline at East End Park.

WYCOMBE WANDERERS
Celtic played Wycombe on Tuesday 8th October in a testimonial match for long-serving defender Jason Cousins. The match was played at Adams Park before a crowd of over 5,000 and Celtic won the match 4-0 with goals from Larsson(2), Cousins (og) and Sylla. A programme for the match was on sale. FRANK MCAVENNIE TESTIMONIAL
No programme issued for Frankie bhoy's testimonial match at St Mirren Park on Sunday 13 October. Just 430 fans saw Saints Legends beat the Celtic Legends team 9-5. Macca played half a game for each team and Tommy Burns was back in the hoops to score two of the Celtic goals.

STENHOUSEMUIR FRIENDLY
Celtic Under 21's played Stenhousemuir at Ochilview in a friendly match on Friday 11 October. The U21's won the match 3-1 and an official programme was issued for the match.

PROGRAMME MONTHLY
The October issue of Programme Monthly is out. Very little about Celtic inside although, as usual, there are many Celtic items for sale in the Advertising Supplement. The only Celtic related item appeared in the Showcase - a crappy greyscale photocopy of the Fiorentina Vs Celtic European Cup match programme from 1970.

CELTIC WIN 2-0 IN LITHUANIA
Celtic beat FK Suduva 2-0 (10-1 agg) in Lithuania tonight by goals from David Fernandez and Alan Thompson to advance to the UEFA Cup 2nd round. The draw for the next round will take place at UEFA’s Nyon headquarters on Tuesday, 8 October 2002 at 12:00 (CET). The second round matches go ahead on 31 October and 14 November 2002. Third-round matches in the UEFA Cup will be played on 28 November and 12 December 2002. See the Suduva match stats. This is the rarest Celtic programme of the season.

CELTIC COLLECTORS CLUB CD ROM
Joe Gilhooley of The Celtic Collectors Club has finished months of painstaking research to create the first record of Celtic match programmes on CD ROM. Celtic issued a programme for the "GREATEST EVER CELTIC TEAM" event held in the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow on Sunday 8/9/02. The programme has 48 pages in full colour, cost £2 and is (surprise, surprise) the same size as the Celtic View and the Celtic match day programme.

UEFA CUP 1st ROUND DRAW - Celtic draw FK SUDUVA
Celtic get only £65,000 because of failure to qualify for the group stages of the UCL. Defeat cost Celtic at least £10 million but I'm sure that we will make it up with a long run in the UEFA Cup. The Scotsman reported that Scotland now is in danger of losing the second CL place earned for next season if Scotland's coefficient drops. Celtic, Aberdeen, Livingston and Rangers must stay in the cup longer than teams from countries with a similar coefficient. The report explains. "The key will be to do better than clubs from the Czech Republic (Rangers) and Austria (Livingston), also close to Scotland in the rankings.".

CARLISLE UTD FRIENDLY
Celtic played Carlisle on Thursday night - 12/9/02 - in a friendly arranged to give squad players like Momo Sylla (scored two in a 5-2 win so expect to see him play on Saturday) some match practice. Carlisle have said that because of the lack of time between arranging the match and it being played, they didn't have a chance to issue a programme although a teamsheet was issued..

SCOTTISH PROGRAMME FAIR CANCELLED
The proposed Scottish Programme Fair has been cancelled due to lack of interest from dealers - only one dealer declared an interest and the fair's organiser has sensibly decided to cancel.

SCOTTISH PROGRAMME FAIRS
Two programmes fairs are set for the next few weeks. AST programmes with Clyde Fair at Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld on Sat 7 Sept from 10.30am to 3.30pm with free admission. A provisional date of Sat 12 October, depending on a viable number of stallholders showing interest, has been set for the Scottish Programme Fair. The venue, also uncertain, will be either Hampden or a city centre venue. Watch out for more info about this one.

GREEN PAGES is a German fanzine dedicated to Celtic and is supported by a nice Web site of the same name. Around a dozen issues of the fanzine have been published already.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFIER
FC BASEL have won their UCL 2nd round qualifying match with MŠK ZILINA 4-1 on aggregate. Celtic will now play FC Basel on Wednesday 14 August at Celtic Park and Wednesday 28 August to qualify for the first group stage. See a list of all clubs taking part.

Celtic Under 21's played in the Oswald Trust charity friendly against Fife Heineken League side STEELEND VICS on Wed 31 July. A programme was issued.

FC Basel get an away draw 1-1 with MŠK Zilina in the Champions League qualifier and are now favourites to meet Celtic. Read more. A friendly has been arranged for Tuesday 30th July at Love Street (not the weans). Saints have pulled out all the stops to produce a 12 page programme for the game. Print run of 1000 @ £1 each.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFIERS DRAW
The UCL 3rd qualifying round draw has taken place (Fri 26 July) in Geneva. However, Celtic will have to wait until after the 2nd qualifiying round matches before finding out if they are to play Slovakia's champions MŠK ZILINA or Switzerland's champions FC BASEL. The 2nd round victors will not be known until 7 August giving traveling fans little time to arrange trips. The 3rd round qualifying matches to be played on 13/14 (home) and 27/28 (away) August. THOMPSON OUT FOR 8 WEEKS
Alan Thompson faces eight weeks out after he was carried off just five minutes into Celtic's 1-3 friendly defeat by Ajax. A scan confirmed extensive ligament damage to the winger's left ankle.

NEW TV DEAL TO SHOW LIVE CELTIC MATCHES
Celtic have signed a new TV deal with Dublin based Setanta Sport. Setanta are an Irish media company which cover all of the domestic and international events of interest to irish sports fans.

The deal will allow Celtic to broadcast selected friendlies and, if Celtic fail to make the Champions league proper, any UEFA cup matches. The games will be on available on a pay-per-view basis through Setanta's Sky digital channel 435 which comes online Sunday 21 July. The first match shown will be the pre-season glamour match against PARMA at the park on 27 July with a cost to the armchair fan of £7.99.

Celtic cannot show any Champions League matches as they are the property of ITV but look out for more useless friendlies as an SPL spokesman said: "Clubs are at liberty to maximise revenues independently in friendlies and other competitions ...". Visit Setanta.com Web site.

Tolka Park, Dublin played host to two pre-season Celtic friendlies on 6th and 7th July against SHELBOURNE & SHAMROCK ROVERS. A progamme was issued for both matches

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFIERS
UEFA have placed Celtic in the group of seeded teams for their single Champions League qualifier. The seeding means that teams like Manchester United and Newcastle will be avoided in the games to enter the group stages. The 3rd qualifying round draw takes place on the 26th July in Geneva at 11.00am. Matches to be played on 13/14 and 27/28 August. Read more at UEFA.com. See a list of all clubs taking part.

Eleven clubs have been invited to form the new European Club Forum, a newly-formed board of club rep's through which UEFA hope to deal with issues of 'mutual interest' to all 102 clubs. Astonishingly, RANGERS are to represent Celtic's interests on the new board. Read more.

Friday 26th July 2002 Celtic Under 21's will play DEVERONVALE FC in Steve Dolan's testimonial match. Allan Whyte, the Spokesman for Dolan's Testimonial Committee said " Steve made it quite clear from the outset that he was a big Celtic fan, and this was the opposition he dearly wanted for his glamour match" Visit the Deveronvale Web site.

CELTIC v MILAN CHARITY MATCH CALLED OFF

Celtic's proposed charity match with AC MILAN in New York on May 14 (Read more) has been called off. The game has been postponed because the match would have clashed the USA friendly against Jamaica which is due to be played on May 16th. It was thought that around 80, 000 fans would have attended the match in aid of the victims of the September 11th atrocities.
