- CHAMPIONS BEFORE EASTER
Hearts tried their third manager of the season to
see if he could beat Gordon Strachans Celtic but Ivanauskas, like
Burley and Rix, failed in his mission. Birthday Bhoy John Hartson
scored the crucial goal in the fifth minute to give the Celts the
SPL title and send Hartleys Jam Tarts back to Edinburgh to think again.
It now looks like all they'll get is a Scottish Cup runners-up medal
to show for their troubles as Rangers will no doubt catch them up
for second place and a Champions League spot. Click here

Two Celtic fanzines were on sale around the stadium
tonight. More than 90 Mins issued a Jimmy
Johnstone special with the wee man on the front cover.
Not
the View issued number 144 with the Celtic team celebrating the
CIS League Cup win at Hampden on the cover.

.JIMMY JOHNSTONE CHARITY
CD SINGLE
Jimmy
Johnstone, Celtic's Greatest Ever Player, charity CD single was released
on Monday 27th March 2006. The single, aims to raise money and awareness
of the condition Motor Neurone Disease, is expected to become a bestselling
record because of Celtic’s worldwide support.
Jimmy Johnstone, who died on Monday 13th March
2006 after a 5-year battle with MND, said: “So little
is known about this dreadful disease and what causes it, so I wanted
to raise money for care and research into MND, and to help raise awareness."
The double A-side features Johnstone in a duet with
Simple Minds' Jim Kerr, covering the Ewan MacColl classic, Dirty Old
Town. World-famous band Simple Minds recorded the song with football
legend Jimmy Johnstone during the filming of 'Lord of the Wing', a
biographical film documentary about the Scottish footballing great.
The second track on the CD, entitled Lord of the Wing,
is performed by John McLaughlin, the Scots songwriter who has written
lyrics for Westlife and formed the boy band Busted. The third track,
entitled Commeroration (Jinky's Farewell), was written by Laura McGhee
in honour of Jimmy Johnstone, after the news of his passing.
Each charity CD single sale will raise £2 towards
the Jimmy Johnstone motor neurone disease tribute fund, which helps
sufferers of the disease.
HMV have already made it possible to pre-order
the title online click here.
MARCH 2006
.LIVINGSTON SPL31 -
26/03/06
Celtic
beat Livingston at the City Stadium 2-0 in this SPL31 match and set
the scene for the Hoops to win the league title before the split.
Next Wednesday's match with Heartski at the Park could provide the
three points we need to get our title back. Poland's World Cup star
Zurawski opened the scoring in 47 minutes and the Scottish Player
of the Year Shaun Maloney converted a penalty five minutes later to
end the match as a competition. Livingston issued a nice programme
with new signing Colin Healy on the front cover. Click here
to see the programme, match ticket and photographs from the match.
Don't expect wee Gordon Strachan to win Scottish Manager
of the Year this season - even if he wins a cup and league double
in his first season. The cat was let out of the bag on Sunday's BBC
radio sports programme when presenter Jim Traynor announced that there
are some amongst the Scottish Press Association that would NEVER vote
for anybody connected with Glasgow Celtic, no matter the circumstance.
This is the practice of silent, secretive sectarian bigotry from the
very same hypocrites that preach to Old Firm fans via the pulpit of
their newspapers and radio shows.
This seems to be coming true. If you listen to the
various sports programmes on radio, you will have heard several of
the 'experts' declare their vote for Kilmarnock moan-a-lot Jim Jeffries.
No, it's too early to be an April fools joke, they're serious. Jim
Jeffries - FAILED in the CIS Cup, FAILED in the Scottish Cup and FAILED
in the SPL - is their choice as they scrape about for any alternative
to WGS to give their dubious award to. Get serious. If Gordon Strachan
doesn't get this award, they will be exposed as hypocritical bigots
and should be brought to task as such. Like the poor wee smokers,
time is running out for the bigots in Scottish society.

.NOT THE VIEW 22/03/06
- TRIBUTE TO JIMMY JOHNSTONE ISSUE
Not
The View had a special tribute issue to Jimmy Johnstone on sale at
Wednesday's SPL match against Inverness CT. It has a great colour
photograph on the covers and the entire issue is dedicated to Jinky
with contributions from some of the top journalists.
Celtic also dedicated their match programme to the
man voted as Celtic's "Greatest Ever Player" in 2002. The
front cover of the programme has a black and white photograph of a
20 year old Jinky with that cheeky grin that we're all familiar with
and on the back, a colour photograph of the great man in mid-dribble.
Before the match, both teams and both sets of fans stood for one minute
and applauded, cheered, whistled and sang in honour of Jinky and all
that he meant to us. At half-time, the Lisbon Lions were lead onto
the field by Jinky's wife, holding the CIS Cup that was won at Hampden
three days before. Click here If
you want to see a full-size picture of the match programme, match
photographs and read details of the match.
The
official Web site of Celtic's greatest ever player can be found at
www.jimmyjohnstone.com.
The site has some brilliant stuff, some of it free or you can buy
Jinky memorabilia like the lapel badge on the left at the online shop.
Every purchase made means more money for research into a cure for
Motor Neurone Disease.

THE CELTIC VIEW - JIMMY JOHNSTONE
1944 - 2006
The
Celtic View have used their current issue to mark the passing of Jimmy
Johnstone. It is a fitting tribute for the man voted the greatest
ever Celtic player by the Celtic fans in 2002. Much of the issue is
dedicated to Jinky and there are some fantastic pictures of him inside
and on the front and back covers. The back cover (shown left) is stunning
and shows Jinky as a very young man.
It is a difficult time for everyone connected with
Celtic and Scottish football but our thoughts are with Jimmys family,
his close friends and the Lisbon Lions. Jimmy's now playing in heavens
eleven, he's gone but will NEVER be forgotten. Click here

Johnstone Web site, click here.
HIBERNIAN SPL 29 - 12/03/06
Cocky
Hibs were put in their place at a snowy Easter Road today by a Celtic
team unbeaten now in their last fourteen SPL matches. Gordon Strachans
team took another mighty step on their way to automatic qualification
for next season's Champions League but had to work hard for it. Hibs
scored first and looked in charge but there is something about Strachans
team that just won't give up. Celtic worked hard to put Hibs down
and equalised when Maloney scored a penalty after he was scythed down
from behind by Whittaker. After that, cretans in the Hibs support
insisted in booing Maloney even after they watched it on the telly
at half-time. Young Stephen McManus wrapped up the points on the hour
mark, slotting home a Zurawski pass from close in.

ABERDEEN SPL 28 - 04/03/06
Celtic
beat Aberdeen 3-0 on Saturday and moved 16 points in front of Hearts
(13 after their win on Sunday). Stan Petrov opened the scoring after
66 minutes, Maloney scored his in 75 and Zurawski rounded off the
scoring in the 89th minute. Click here to see the match programme.
Not The View Issue 142 was being sold around the stadium.
FEBRUARY 2006
DUNFERMLINE SPL 27 19/02/06 - RECORD BREAKING CELTS
Celtic
made Premier League history today by scoring eight against the Pars
at East End Park. No debuts for a change but Maciej Zurawski scored
four and played his best match since joining Celtic. Stilian Petrov
opened the scoring in the third minute when young Marc Wilson made
a fine run up the left wing to cross. John Hartson made it two followed
a by a Zurawski hat-trick. All of this and the fun still wasn't over
as Shaun Maloney scored the sixth with a brilliant volley, Neil Lennon
scoring a rare goal made it seven and the Poland international scored
his fourth and Celtic's eighth in the dying minutes of the match.
Click here to see the match programme and ticket.
.RANGERS SPL 26 - 12/02/06
Celtic
took their fantastic away support to Ibrox today and treated them
to yet another victory at the home of their fiercest rivals. Magic
Zurawski scored the crucial goal in 11 minutes and Keane and Lennon
ran the show after that. That result gives the Celts 13 points on
Hearts (What a bunch of losers!) and 21 points on 4th place Rangers.

That
excellent wee rag - The Celt

In our opinion, it is the most interesting of all the Celtic related
publications on offer these days and if you subscribe to the Celt,
you will not be disappointed. Subscription is the only way to get
the rag and its a great deal at only £5 for 4 issues and that
includes p&p. If you are interested in supporting The Celt and

Roy
Keane scored his first Celtic goal as Celtic top the SPL, 10 points
clear of Hearts and 18 points above Rangers (they lost 2-0 to Aberdeen
at Pittodrie). Dion Dublin made his Celtic debut and showed that he

.DUNDEE UNITED SPL24
- 28/01/06
Celtic
dropped two points today with a 3-3 draw against Dundee United at
Celtic Park. Hartson 9, Zurawski 49 and Petrov 67 scored the goals
that keeps Celtic eight points in front of Hearts. New signing Mark
Wilson made his debut against his former club. Celtic issued a match
programme. Click here

in a freindly in Ireland on Thursday. The match was arranged to mark
the inauguration of the new €73,000 floodlight system at the
playing fields at Tragh-a-Lough, Fanad. Fanad issued an excellent
coloured match
programme for €2. The Fanad Peninsula lies between Lough

his best match for Celtic so far. Click here

.CLYDE SCOTTISH CUP
ROUND 3 - 08/01/06
 Clyde
knocked Celtic out of the Cup today at Broadwood Stadium. The 2-1
score flattered a very poor Celtic team, it could have been 6-1 and
Clyde would have deserved it. Roy Keane and Du Wei made their debuts
and Zurawski returned from his international injury to score Celtics
goal. Programme and match details here.
.WORLD SOCCER MAGAZINE
JULY 1967
The
World Soccer magazine issued in July 1967 has a photograph of the
Celtic squad for the 1966/67 season on the front cover. At the time
of writing this article, a copy of the mag is being auctioned on ebay
and is fetching a surprising price. It is not a great deal of money
- £10 with one day remaining - but is still a fair amount for
a single magazine of this type. The Celts of 67 are on the cover because
they had just become the first British team to win the European Cup
two months before. If you want to see a picture
of the magazine and some more info, click the link. If you want
to follow what happens with the auction, click here

.HEARTS SPL21 01/01/06
- THE GORGIE BUBBLE'S BLOWN APART
Celtic
destroyed an over-cocky Hearts team today in a stunning second-half
display at Tyncastle. Hearts were up 2-0 at half-time with goals from
Wallace (og) and Pressley but could not stand the pressure that comes
with being a Championship winning team. Their bubble finaly burst
when substitute Stephen Pearson scored on 55 minutes and Stephen McManus
added two more in the last three minutes of the match. This stretches
Celtic's lead in the SPL to 7 points over Hearts and 17 points over
Rangers. Click here to see the match

.1967 EUROPEAN CUP
WIN TO BE HONOURED BY UEFA - 14/12/05
Celtic
will be honoured by UEFA along with the other 21 clubs that
have won the top European club trophy as part of their 50 years of
European football celebrations. Only two years ago it was the Celtic
supporters that UEFA and FIFA honoured as being the best fans in the
World, now it's the turn of Jock Stein and the other Lisbon Lions
that won the European Cup in 1967. Peter Lawwell will be at the Champions
League draw in Nyon on Friday to receive a commemorative plaque on
behalf of the club. Maybe he should take Fernando Ricksen with him
so that he can get his facts straight about who's won what.
.RANGERS UNDER 19'S
-14/12/05
Celtic
Under 19's played Rangers Under 19's in an SPL Youth League match
at Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld on Wednesday 14 December. Celtic
won the match 2-1 with goals from Marc Millar and Paul McGowan, Dany
N'Guessan scoring for Rangers. Like the big team, the young Celts
are well out in front in their league, leading second placed Motherwell
by six points. This result leaves the Ibrox youngsters in sixth place,
trailing the leaders by 13 points. The return match is scheduled for
Saturday 11 February 2006 and we expect that a programme will be issued
for this match as well. Click here

.NEW FANZINE FOR BADGE
COLLECTORS - 10/12/05
Issue
1 of a new fanzine (or badgezine as the author calls it) for collectors
of Celtic badges has been published by the Home
of CSC Badges Web site. The site and badgezine are the creation
of Celtic badge collector William Mulholland, who confesses to having
over 1500 badges in his collection. The badgezine has 20 pages covering
all the the areas of enamel badges, including european, domestic and
general issue vendor badges. Click here

and Shaun Maloney. Celtic issued a match programme in usual numbers.

.DECEMBER CELTIC FANZINES
- 10/12/05
Four
different Celtic fanzines have published their December issues, three
of them were on sale at the Hibernian match on Saturday.
The first was Issue 1 of a brand new fanzine from
the Jungle Bhoys called "Jungle Fever".
It is printed in full colour and had 32, A5 sized glossy pages for
£1.50. The Jungle Bhoys are the new Celtic 'ultras' group
that are involved in trying to improve the atmosphere at Celtic home
matches - good luck with that one but we can't see it happening under
the current seating regulations. If they want to improve the atmosphere,
their best plan could be to lobby the appropriate people about creating
a safe standing area inside Celtic Park and other football stadiums.
While the fans are arranged like battery hens in a chicken coup and
guarded by overzealous stewards, it just won't happen. The fanzine
has its own Web site and if you want to get involved, you can contact
the JBs by email. Jungle Fever is an interesting read and we look
forward to issue 2. Click here
to see the fanzine and contact addresses.
Issue 139 of Not the View
- now the longest running Celtic fanzine still in print - was on sale
at the usual points around the ground and Issue 35 of the Irish-based
fanzine More than 90 Mins was
also available, although it is always a bit more difficult to find
this one. Click these links to see the Not
the View and More
than 90 Mins.
Finally, The Celt Issue 98
is out. You can't buy this in the shops or at the match, only through
subscription. If you want to read this cult Celtic fanzine, you will
have to order it from the editor. This might seem like a lot of effort
when you can buy the other Celtic fanzines far more easily but this
one is worth it. Subscribe to The Celt at the address below. Subscriptions

.THE PATSY GALLAGHER
TESTIMONIAL PROGRAMME
The
picture on the left shows the front cover of a Celtic programme from
the 1932 Patsy Gallagher testimonial match (or Complimentary Benefit
match as they called it then). It is taken from a Web site dedicated
to the great Celt. The site shows a series of pictures scanned from
the programme along with other information about Gallagher. The match
was played at Celtic Park between a Scottish Football League select
and a Celtic / Falkirk select on 4th January 1932. Patsy had been
6 years at Falkirk by then and there are many other famous names in
the teamlists on the middle pages - Morton and Meiklejohn of Rangers,
McGrory and Kennaway of Celtic to name but four. This is a must visit
site, not one to be missed if you are interested in Celtic programmes.

.CELTIC 3 RANGERS 0
- 19/11/05
Celtic
thrashed Rangers today to move three points above second place Hearts
and Big John Hartson took only 12 minutes to score his 101st goal
in the famous Hoops. Nakamura intercepted a Hutton pass, slipped the
ball to Shaun Maloney who crossed an inch perfect ball for Hartson
to side-foot past the Rangers goalie. Shunsuke Nakamura set up the
second with a cross for a Bobo Balde header and Irish internationalist
Aiden McGeady knocked the third in under the body of blunder-keeper
Waterreus. Celtic issued their usual
match
programme for the match. Click here

.ON EBAY AND OVERPRICED
- 07/11/05
A
full set of home programmes for Celtic's European Cup win in 1967
is being sold in an ebay auction that finishes tomorrow (07/11). The
set includes the programmes for the four rounds up to the final, the
final programme itself, a copy of the World Championship programme
for the home match against Racing and a small pennant from around
the time of the final.
The interesting point is that the bids have already
far exceeded the value of the set. If you accept that the four programmes
for the earlier rounds are worth around £40 each, £200
for the final and about £10 for the Racing that adds up to about
£380. As the bid currently stands at £690 with 15 hours
left until the auction ends (07-Nov at 15:37UTC), the pennant would
have to be worth around £300 to make it a good deal for the
top bidder. I don't claim to be an expert on the value of pennants
but I'm sure that it's not worth that amount. The seller is totally
blameless as he/she started the bidding at only £10 - now that's
what I call a bargain. If you want to check on the final price for
this auction, click
this. Click here
to see the statue on the front cover of this week's Celtic View.
We are trying to keep a record of the latest prices
paid for Celtic programmes and have now published it here.
We haven't made any of them up and all of the estimates represent
actual prices people have paid for the programmes. Feel free to make
use of the list but please don't write to us to argue about it. If
you don't agree, keep it to yourself.

.FALKIRK SPL14 06/11/05
- HARTSON 100, CELTS STAY TOP
Big
John Hartson scored Celtic's third goal at Falkirk Stadium today and
joined the elite band of Celtic strikers to score 100 goals in the
famous Hoops. Although well in charge of the match, It took Celtic
until four minutes from half-time to beat a hard working home team.
Shaun Maloney pounced from close in to guide a McGeady pass past Glennon
in the Falkirk goal. The second came more quickly, this time through
Aiden McGeady. The Falkirk fans had been spewing their sectarian and
racist bile at the young Ireland international for the entire match
when, just a minute after the first goal, he collected the ball and
struck a low shot past the helpless Falkirk keeper to make it two.
Falkirk issued a match
programme for £2.50.
.BROTHER WALFRID MEMORIAL
STATUE - 05/11/05
The
unveiling of the the Brother Walfrid memorial statue was held on Saturday,
5th November at Celtic Park. The statue of Brother Walfrid, the central
figure in the founding and early history of Celtic Football Club,
has been placed outside the main entrance to the Park as a permanent
tribute to the great man.
Financed entirely by donations from Celtic fans from
around the world, it is a 9ft-high bronze and was created by Glasgow
sculptor Kate Robinson. During the ceremony, Brian Quinn gave a moving
speech on the charitable origins of Celtic and the need to feed and
clothe the poor and hungry Irish immigrants that lived in Glasgow's
East End. The statue was blessed by the Archbishop of Glasgow Mario
Conti and unveiled by former player Sean Fallon in front of the hundreds
of fans that turned up to watch the historic event. As if that wasn't
enough, the Memorial Fund Committee had the foresight to publish a
pamphlet to mark the occasion. The four page publication is printed
in full colour on Novatech matt 250gsm board and has a photo of the
statue on the front cover. Click here
to see the pamphlet.
See some photographs of the event and statue at the

Collectors Club Web site.

.DUNDEE UNITED SPL13
- SAME OLD CELTIC, ALWAYS WINNING - 30/10/05
Celtic
beat Dundee Utd at Tannadice today. The 4-2 win and the defeat of
the 'unbeatable' Hearts yesterday allowed the Celts to overtake Romanov's
team and regain their rightful place at the top of the SPL. We knew
the Hearts bottle would crack eventually but it was great to see it
smashed at Easter Road by Hibs. United issued a 64 page, full colour
programme for £2.50 - click here

.CELTIC MATCH BADGES
- 15/10/05
One
year on and new Celtic match badges are still appearing for last year's
Champions League matches in Group F. The badge on the right is from
Spain, it makes 30 different badges that I've collected for that campaign
but there are even more to get, if you are a serious badge collector.
Fifty four is nearer the mark but how do you keep up with what you

.ALTERNATIVE VIEW ISSUE
40 - 12/10/05
The
latest issue of alternative VIEW magazine came out today and is available
at the usual places. Being issue 40, this is another milestone for
this excellent Celtic magazine in a difficult market (remember what
happened to Green, White & Bold). If you can wait until Saturday,
it will be on sale at Celtic Park before the match with Hearts. The
mag cost £2.50 for Thirty two A4 glossy pages of pure Celtic
news and insightful commentary (not the crap we're fed by the laptop
loyal). Click here

.LIVINGSTON SPL9 -

double. A match programme was on sale for £2.50 and the latest

.FALKIRK CIS Cup 3rd
Round - 21/09/05

.THERE'S ONLY ONE NEIL
LENNON - 20/09/05
Neil Lennon appeared before the SFA's disciplinary
committee today to answer for his sending off at Ibrox last month
and received a three match ban. This will disappoint the bigots in
the Scottish press, media and public who have been campaigning for
them to 'make an example of him'. This means that he will only miss
the CIS Cup match tomorrow, the two SPL matches against ICT and Livingston
and will be back to help knock Hearts off the top of the league on
October 15 .
.HIBERNIAN SPL7 - 18/09/05
Stan
Petrov scored the only goal of the match in Celtic's 1-0 win at Easter
Road today. Hibs issued a sell-out (2,200 print run), 56 page, A5
programme for £2.00. Click here
to see the match programme and ticket.
The
first issue of a new political fanzine called "IRIS" was
being sold at Easter Road. The magazine is A4 size and cost £3.
It is printed in full colour on glossy paper and had 32 pages. As
you would expect, the content is mainly political but there is a two
page spread about Aiden McGeady discussing his choice of playing for
Ireland rather than Scotland. The mag is printed and published by
Cairde Na hÉireann and you can contact them at PO
Box 2273 Glasgow, G33 1WX or at cairde.scotland@ireland.com
or by phone at 07963038448.
.ABERDEEN SPL6 - 10/09/05
A
goal in each half from Maciej Zurawski and Stilian Petrov gave Celtic
all three points on the 20th anniversary of Jock Stein's death. There
were celebrations before the match to pay tribute to Celtic's greatest
ever manager and Celtic issued a special programme with big Jock's
picture on the front cover and the Lisbon Lions of 67 as a double-page
poster inside. The 64 page programme sold out before the kick-off.
to see the programme and match ticket.
.JOCK STEIN REMEMBERED
- 10 September 1986
Celtic fans plan to pay tribute to Jock Stein before
the match against Aberdeen on Saturday. It will be 20 years since
the great man died in Cardiff while managing Scotland to the World
Cup finals in 1986. The Bhoys and Ghirls at thecelticjungle.proboards44.com
have a flag that will be unfurled in the Jock Stein Lower stand and
green and white streamers are being released from the top-tier. Celtic
have arranged for the Lisbon Lions to kick-off the celebration before
the game and there will be an Italian style minute of applause, rather
than silence, before the match kicks-off.
The match programme will have a special section on
JS, including a poster of Hugh Birt's
classic photograph of the manager and his European Cup winning team
- you know the one with the Lions, Jock Stein in the middle of the
back row, the Cup in front and the old Jungle in the background.
.SEPTEMBER CELTIC FANZINES
The latest version of The Celt came out on Friday
9 September. Issue 95 includes the next chapter on Pat Wood's fact
finding mission to Celtic 1967 World Club Championship opponents Racing
Club and is not one to miss. You can only get this fanzine directly
from the editor but it is well worth the effort. To find out how,
Three other fanzines were available at the match against Aberdeen
on Saturday - Not
The View Issue 136, The
View from the 32 Issue 13 and alternative
VIEW Issue 39. The alternative VIEW will be available
at your usual outlet from Wednesday 14 Sept and the next issue of
More than 90 Mins will be out within the next two weeks.

.NEW ORLEANS CSC NEEDS
YOUR HELP - 07/09/05
Following the devistation caused by Hurricane Katrina
in the Gulf Coast of America, many Celtic fans have found themselves
caught up in the carnage. Other CSC's in the States have given help
with offers of cash, lodgings and food etc. However, they still need
our help and an appeal has been launched for fellow Celts to help
in any way they can. If you want to learn more about this, go to www.cybertims.com.
.BRITISH MASTERS GRAND
FINAL - 04/09/05
After
winning the Scottish Masters Tournament played at Braehead in July
this year, Celtic's Masters team travelled to the M.E.N. Arena in
Manchester to take part in the British Grand Final on Sunday 4 September.
It was the first time the Celts have made it to the Grand Final so
their exit at the Quarter-final stage to Tottenham Hotspur's Masters
is understandable. Spurs won the match 4-3 with Andy Walker, Chick
Charnley and Frank McAvennie scoring for the Hoops. Like in the earlier
Scottish Masters, a tournament
programme was on sale at £5, this time in a smaller B5 size.
.ARBROATH FRIENDLY
- 02/09/05
Because of the break for the Scotland v Italy World
Cup match on Saturday, Celtic played a friendly match against Arbroath
at Gayfield on Friday nght. A strike midway through the second half
was enough for Celtic to see off a plucky Arbroath side 1-0. Arbroath
matched their opponents for much of the game with the Celtic side
including, Virgo, Agathe, Pearson and Wallace in the starting eleven.
The match was arranged at very short notice so no programme was issued.
AUGUST 2005
.DUNFERMLINE SPL5 28/08/05
Two
of Gordon Strachan's Summer signings scored their first goal for Celtic
today. Maciej Zurawski scored in 5 minutes and followed that by scoring
his second in the 4-0 win. Japanese internationalist Shunsuke
Nakamura was the other star to open his Hoops account. The Pars
issued a 48 page B5 programme for £2.50. Click here to see
the match programme and ticket.
.SUDDEN INFANT DEATH
SYNDROME APPEAL - 26/08/05
Celtic programme collector and season ticket holder
Gerry Weir has asked us to appeal to Celtic fans everywhere to support
him in his bid to raise funds for SIDSA (Cot death). Gerry's brother,
Paul, tragically lost his 13 day old daughter, Erin, from Sudden Infant
Death Syndrome in March this year. On 11 September he is running in
the Robin Hood Half Marathon in Notttingham to raise funds to help
buy monitors for new parents. He hopes to raise £800 (or more).
If you can help in any way, simply go to www.justgiving.com/forerin
where you can donate online. Donating through this site is simple,
fast and totally secure and is also the most efficient way to sponsor
Gerry: The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths will receive
your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax
will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
.THE CELT - 18/08/05
The

in 1967 for his next book. You can subscribe to The Celt at the address
below. Subscriptions give fantastic value at £5 for every 4

CLUB CDROM 4TH EDITION - 17/08/05
Following
the success of the first three editions, the CCC has updated their
CD to include season 2004/5. New sections have added including the
pre-1946/7 programmes (over 60 images) and the miscellaneous section
has been extended. The 4th edition is must for all collectors of Celtic

.B-Jeugd BETUWE TOURNAMENT
- 13-14/08/05
Celtic's
Under 17's team played in the Betuwe Youth Tournament in Holland this
week. The tournament has been held for the last ten years and the
young Celts have taken part in the last three of them. The tournament
always produces a programme and this year was no exception. The tournament
programme has 40 A5 pages with a glossy card cover. Inside pages are
printed with a blue spot colour on white glossy pages. Click here
to see it and other tournament memorabilia.
.FALKIRK SPL3 13/08/05
Celtic
were a goal behind to Falkirk at half-time but rallied in the second-half
to win 3-1 with goals from John Hartson and Alan Thompson (2) to win
all three points and move above Rangers. Celtic issued a match
programme in normal numbers.
Congratulation to Aberdeen and ex-Celt Jamie Smith
for their 3-2 victory over Rangers at Pittodrie on Sunday. Jamie scored
the winner for the Dons, a screamer from 22 yards. Celtic now go into
next week's match at Ibrox one point in front. If not a victory, a
draw will do us.
.RANGERS SPL4 - 20/08/05

.CELTIC VIEW IS FORTY
- 10 AUGUST 2005
The
Celtic View will be forty years old tomorrow. Founded by former chairman
Jack McGinn, Issue 1 hit the streets of Glasgow on August 11 1965
and was the first club newspaper of it's kind. To celebrate this landmark,
this week's issue of the View contained a free reproduction copy of
that very first issue. Well done Celtic View and thanks for a great
piece of memorabilia. You can subscribe to the View by calling 0845
880 0445 or do it online at the Celtic
Web site. You get a Chris Sutton DVD and your first three issues
free with every subscription. Click here

JULY 2005
.MOTHERWELL SPL1 -
30/07/05

.UPDATE ON BRATISLAVA
AWAY PROGRAMME
After our previous article (see below) about the appearance
of 300 extra copies of the rare Bratislava programme, the owner of
Glasgow Programmes.com contacted us to dispute our information. Although
the original info came directly from him, it now seems that he contacted
the official at Artmedia Bratislava who deals with their match programme
and arranged for them to be sent to Scotland. He also said that not
all of the 300 programmes were made available to him but that some
of them have gone to Artmedia supporters who wanted a memento of their
amazing victory over Britain's first winners of the European Cup.
We were also informed that the programme is not to be called a reprint
but is a 're-release'. If you intend to buy a re-release copy, you
will have to make up your own mind about the difference - if any -
in the meaning of these two words. More on this later.
.ARTMEDIA BRATISLAVA
REPRINTS
The Artmedia Bratislava European away programme has
been reprinted. Reprints are being sold by GlasgowProgrammes.com from
their Internet site for £45. The owner of the site contacted
the publisher in Bratislava after it became apparent that the programme
was scarce/valuable and arranged for another 300 to be printed. This
is annoying on many levels but the fact that the programme is unlikely
to be marked as a reprint is surely the worst of all. This is closely
followed by the situation where some collectors have already paid
big money for a first issue copy and first issue copies are currently
being sold on ebay at over £120. More on this later.
.KOLLECTABLES LATEST
SALE LIST
The Glasgow soccer memorabilia shop, Kollectables
has issued it's current list of Celtic programmes for sale. All of
the programmes in the list are available at set prices so why not
give ebay a rest and make some hassle-free buys without getting involved
in a bidding war. You can see the list at Kollectables Web site by
clicking here.
.ARTMEDIA BRATISLAVA
- 27/07/05
A
programme was issued for the match in Bratislava tonight but was not
on general sale at the Tehelné Pole Stadium. One copy per person
was being given out free at Artmedia's Senec Stadium on match day
to those lucky enough to visit the Senec Stadium. Only a handful made
it back according to the collectors at the match. This will make the
programme very rare. The last time something like this happened was
for the Dynamo Batumi match in 1995 when the programme was only given
out to members of Celtic's official party. More about this and a picture
of the programme tomorrow. Match info and a picture of the match ticket
and programme here.

.THE CELT - 15/07/05
The
latest issue of The Celt fanzine is out. Issue 93 is the July issue
of the now monthly magazine. This issue pays tribute to ex-Celt and
Scotland international Willie Miller who died on the 23rd of June.
This issue is no different from any other issue of this great mag
as it is crammed full of Celtic articles, commentary and statistics
that you won't read anywhere else. You can subscribe to The Celt at
the address below. Subscriptions give fantastic value at £5
for every 4 issues, the price includes p&p). Send your payment
to E.A. MacBride, 31, Harrowby Lane, GRANTHAM,
NG31 9HY, UK. Click here
to see the current issue or here
for The Celt fanzine page.
Willie Miller signed for Celtic at the age
17 from Maryhill Harp and was Celtic's keeper from 1942-49. In Tom
Campbell and Pat Woods book The Glory and the Dream he is described
as "an exceptional keeper .... of outstanding ability" and
Bob Crampsey has declared Miller's performance in an inter-league
international against England in 1947 as "the greatest display
of goalkeeping I've ever seen". R.I.P.

first issue of the Celtic View for season 2005/06 is out today. The
number of pages has been increased from last season's 64 pages to
72 and the price moves in the same direction, up 30 pence to £2.25.
As we revealed in an earlier article, the View along with the match
programme will now be printed by Oxfordshire based communications
company Cre8.Network. The cover has been redesigned and looks great
with captain Neil Lennon modeling the new Celtic away strip. Click

.CSA INAUGURAL EUROPEAN
CONVENTION - BENIDORM 2006
Dates have been confirmed for the inaugural Celtic
Supporters Association European Convention which will be hosted by
the Benidorm CSC in 2006. The week long event will take place from
the 23rd to the 30th May with the prestigious award ceremony in the
luxurious Benidorm Palace on Sunday 28th May culminating in a presentation

.SCOTTISH MASTERS CUP
2005
Celtic
veterans took part in the 2005 Scottish Masters Cup at Braehead Arena,
Glasgow on July 3. Teams taking part were Celtic Masters, Aberdeen
Masters, Motherwell Masters and last year's winners the Rangers Masters.
The Celtic team have been competing since 2000 without winning the
tournament but managed the feat this year and now go on to play in
the Grand Final on September 4 at the M.E.N Arena, Manchester against
the winners of the other areas. If you are interested in going to
watch the old Hoops, kick-off is 5pm.
A tournament
programme is issued each year for the area group matches with
a separate issue for the Grand Final. Click here
to see the tournament programme for this year's goup matches. The
Masters tournament has it's own Web site where you can get information
about the cup and buy the programmes and other masters related sports
goods at their online
shop.
.PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES
Willie
McStay is to take a reserves/youths team on a four mach tour of Ireland
between 14th and 27th of July, playing - Newry
Town at The Showgrounds, Newry on the 15th, Sligo
Rovers at The Showgrounds, Sligo on Tuesday 19 July at 8.00pm,
Monaghan United
at Century Homes Park on the 23rd and Derry
City at the Brandywell Stadium on Tuesday 26 July. We will include
info on any programmes produced as the tour progresses. We think that
each match will produce a programme as, although these are pre-season
friendlies for the Celts, they are mid-season friendlies for the Irish
League teams and their programme editorial teams will be hard at work.
The pre-season friendlies for the first team are away
to Fulham on Saturday 16 July, away to Leicester City on
Tuesday 19 July, Sporting Lisbon and Leeds Utd at Celtic
Park on Thursday 21 July and Sunday 24 July, respectively. The Sporting
game is a freeby on your season ticket so match tickets for collectors
will be scarce.
.CELTIC COLLECTORS
CLUB WEB SITE REDESIGNED
The
Celtic
Collectors Club Web site has been totally redesigned for the coming
season and has been relaunched in it's new format. Founded in October
2000, the CCC site is without doubt the best football memorabilia
site anywhere on the WWW and Celtic collectors are fortunate to have
such a resource dealing exclusively in their hobby. The site looks
great and contains hundreds of pages of information with pictures
about every kind of Celtic memorabilia that have been arranged under
five, easy to find, main categories - programmes, books, badges, brochures
and everything else. If you haven't visited lately, you'll be surprised
by the changes. Click here
to visit.
.CELTIC BADGES
If you collect Celtic badges and have ever wondered
if your hobby is becoming your obsession, you should visit David
Hood's Celtic Badges Web site. David has turned obsession into
an art form and displayed his collection of Celtic badges for others
to see. The site has thousands of images, loads of info about collecting
Celtic badges, a collectors meeting place and much, much more. If
you are new to the hobby, it's a must visit site. If your not, you've
already been there. If your a member of a Celtic Supporters Club,
David can help you get a badge made for your club. Click here
to visit.
.CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW
UEFA have made the draw for the Champions League first
and second qualifying rounds for 2005/06 and the road to the The Stade
de France next May begins for Celtic fans on 26 July. Celtic have
been drawn against the winners of the First round tie between FC
Kairat Almaty of Kazakhstan and FC
Artmedia Bratislava of Slovakia.
IF Artmedia triumph in the first round tie (let's hope
they do or we're off to Kazakhstan. Wherever that is.), Celtic supporters
traveling to Slovak will find a city steeped in history and culture.
Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia, the seat of the Slovak presidency,
parliament and government and the country's largest city. Picturesquely
situated on both banks of the Danube, it is at the foot of and in
the Little Carpathians, directly at the Austrian and Hungarian borders
and is only 60 km (45-65 minutes by train) from Vienna. Historically,
it has been influenced by several nations including Rome, Greece,
Austria and Hungary and is heaving with castles, ancient ruins and
museums. Oh and there's an Irish bar where the bhoys can get a wee
refreshment before the match called "Irish Pub" that can
be found in Michalska Street, in the city centre.
.PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES
05/06
Celtic
are to play Fulham in a pre-season friendly match
for the third year in a row. The match is scheduled for Saturday 16
July at Craven Cottage. The kick-off time is still to be confirmed
but a 3 pm start looks favourite. Three days later the Hoops take
on Leicester City at the Walker Stadium on Tuesday,
19 July at 7.45pm. This will be only the second time that Celtic and
Leicester have played against each other. The first time was during
the 2001/2002 season when Martin O'Neill took his treble champions
to play in a match to say "Fairwell to Filbert Street".
One month after the match against Celtic, Leicester
City played for the last time at their Filbert Street ground. They
had been playing there since 1891 but a new era awaited them just
400 yards away from the old ground at the brand new Walker Stadium.
The last match at Filbert Street was against Tottenham Hotspur on
May 11 2003 and a 100 page souvenir programme commemorating the 111
years of football at the Foxes' famous ground was published to celebrate
the occasion. Click here
to see the programme for both of these matches.
.A NEW CELTIC T-SHIRT
WEB SITE - SIXTEE7
A
new Celtic Web site has been set up called SIXTEE7. The Web site sells
Tee-Shirts with unusual Celtic themes. For example, one shows a map
on the front of the shirt containing the location of Celtic Supporters
clubs around the World and lists the name of the CSC on the back.
If your a member of a CSC, why not visit
the site to see if your club is included. Another is dedicated
to former Celt Mohammed Abdul Salim the first Asian player ever to
play for a European football club. The site has a shopping cart system
for convenient shopping and as a bonus, for every t-shirt sold Sixtee7.com
will donate £1 to the Jimmy Johnstone MND Charity. Click here
to go to the site.

WEB SITE
Celtic's
greatest ever player, Jimmy Johnstone has his own Web site at www.jimmyjohnstone.com.
If you haven't already been there, do it now. Apart from the excellent
design of the site making your visit worthwhile alone, the content
is superb and you can buy a vast range of Jinky memorabilia using
the online shop. The site is Jinky's and the memorabilia is being
sold by him so you won't be giving your cash to cowboys out to make
a quick earner from Jimmy's name.
As well as a shop, there is a large image and news
archive, a biography and statistics section or if you want to get
more interactive, you can post a tribute to Jimmy, sign up for his
newsletter or watch the short version of his latest film, " Lord
of the Wing".
