MAY 2007
.LISBON LIONS 40TH
ANNIVERSARY SOUVENIRS - MAY 2007
On
25th of May 1967 Jock Stein stood on the Lisbon turf and said "We
did it by playing football. Pure, beautiful inventive football".
He was, of course, talking about how his young Lisbon Lions had just
ripped apart the ultra-defensive Inter Milan to become the first British
team to win the European Cup. As the 40th anniversary of the historic
victory in Lisbon approaches, Scotland's newspapers are busy issueing
souvenir magazines to mark the great event. Click here
to see the issues from the Herald, the Sun and the Evening Times.
.LISBON LIONS 40TH
ANNIVERSARY CATALOGUE - MAY 2007
On
the 25th of May 2007 it will be 40 years since Jock Stein, Billy McNeill

The club has issued a 28 page mail order catalogue to sell the range
which will become a collectable in it's own right. Click here
to see the catalogue.
.ABERDEEN SPL37 - ONLY
ONE NEIL LENNON 12/05/07
Neil
Lennon played at Celtic Park for the last time today in a 2-0 win
for the hOOps against the sheep worriers. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink
scored both goals to bring his tally to 16 in an injury ravaged season
for the big Dutch striker. Nakamura was superb but our man-of-the-match
was Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe at right back - why wasn't he playing
at Ibrox last week? Celtic issued a match
programme and Issue
155 of Not The View was on sale around the stadium.

the league all but over since the September weekend, if Hibs take

.JOHNNY DOYLE THE
MAN WHO LOVED THE GREEN - 10/02/07
The
Jungle Bhoys continued to honour Celtic players of the past with a
fanzine tribute to 70's Celtic hero Johnny Doyle at today's match
with Hibs. The 16 Page Memorial Fanzine marks the occasion of 25 years
since the tragic accident that killed Johnny Doyle in 1981.
It is fitting that we should remember former Celts
like Johnny Doyle but it seems especially so for one who died at only
30 years of age. He was a Celt through and through as anyone who saw
him play will know. There are some excellent articles about the never-say-die
winger and they include some memories from Johnny's sister Anne Marie
and his daughter Joanna. Click this link to see a bigger picture of
the front
and back cover of the Johnny Doyle tribute.
If you want to get a copy, contact the guys at the
Jungle Bhoys Website.
.TAL FANZINE RETURNS
AFTER 2 YEAR HOLIDAY - 10/02/07
PLC
Celtic has creeped up on the guys at TAL fanzine and
they don't like it. Who does? Except, they aim to do something about
it so they have resurrected TAL to help the cause. Inside, they waste
no time and mince no words in telling us what it's all about - "We're
Back! After a two year break .... out of necessity due to renewed
attacks upon the culture and identity of the supporters by the PLC."
It must be said that the stewards at Celtic Park do
seem to have been victimising a particular section of the support
at recent matches for doing nothing more than singing Irish songs
and situations like season ticket holders not getting a ticket for
the AC Milan game because of the prawn sandwich brigade are totally
unacceptable. They seem to have a point and we wish them luck. Click
this to see TAL
Issue 41.
JANUARY 2007
CELTIC TO PLAY THE MLS ALL-STARS - 25/01/07
Glasgow
Celtic have agreed to play the MLS All-Stars in a glamour friendly
match in the United States this Summer. The stars
v hOOps match will be played at
the Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado on
Thursday, July 19. Assuming Celtic were first choice for the MLS’s
marquee mid-season event, this is another major coup for the club
and great news for the thousands of Celtic fans living in the US.
Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “We
are absolutely delighted to be traveling to America again this pre-season
to take part in this match versus the MLS All-Stars.
“Celtic has a world-wide audience with thousands
of fans in the United States and I am sure this passionate support
will be looking forward to welcoming the team back. Everyone at Celtic
is very much looking forward to the trip.”
The Dick’s Sporting Goods Park is the home of
Colorado Rapids and is claimed to be the biggest and most state-of-the-art
professional stadium and field complex in the world. It has an 18,000-seat
stadium surrounded by a 24-field, fully-lit professional soccer complex.
More about this at Colorado

Vennegoor of Hesselink scored a hat-trick in a 5-1 demolition of St
Mirren at Celtic Park today to extend Celtic's lead at the top of

programme and match details.
.DUMBARTON SCOTTISH
CUP - 06/01/07
Celtic
moved easily into the 4th round of the Scottish Cup today by beating
Dumbarton 4-0 at Celtic Park. Two goals from Maciej Zurawski within
the first 10 minutes killed off the plucky Sons team. Jan Vennegoor
of Hesselink was in the right place at the right time to tap in the
third from under the bar and Derek Riordan scored the fourth with
a great shot from an acute angle. Click here
for the programme,
ticket and match details.
.LATEST FANZINES -
JANUARY 2007
Issue
41 of the excellent Celtic fanzine More
than 90 Mins was on sale at the match against Kilmarnock
on Tuesday 2nd January. This issue has a stunning print of Shunsuke
Nakamura on the front cover by artist Ryan Mutter and another 28 A4
pages crammed full of Celtic news and views for just £2. Click

The
latest issue of The Celt
was delivered on the 4th of January 2007. Issue 109 is actually the
November 2006 copy but was delayed after the sad death of Eugene MacBride,
the editor of the cult fanzine. We were shocked to hear that Eugene
had lost his battle with cancer and offer our condolences to his family
and friends. Requiescat in Pace. Click here

DECEMBER 2006
.MOTHERWELL SPL22 -
30/12/06
Celtic
fought out a 1-1 draw with Motherwell at Fir Park today. Derek Riordan
made his first SPL start for Celtic since his move from Hibernian
and scored the only goal for the hOOps. It was 1-0 to Celtic after
90 minutes and it looked like they would take all three points until
Darren Lee Smith scrambled the late equaliser as injury time approached.
Fortunately, both Aberdeen and Rangers messed up as well, Aberdeen
losing to Dundee Utd at Tannadice and Rangers only managed a draw
with St Mirren at Ibrox. Celtic stay top with 53 points, Aberdeen
are 16 points behind and Rangers remain in third place and are 17
points adrift. Click here
to see the programme,
ticket and match details.
.DUNDEE UNITED SPL21
- 26/12/06
Celtic
had to fight back from 2-0 down to earn a draw in today's SPL match
at Celtic Park. Darren O'Dea scored Celtic's first with his first
goal for the big team and Shunsuke Nakamura followed that with a sublime
chip from 20 yards over the United goalie. That point gives the hOOps
a 15 point lead over Aberdeen in second place - Rangers are 17 points
behind but play in Inverness tomorrow. Click here
to see the programme and match details.
.FALKIRK SPL20 - 24/12/06
This
Celtic team don't get the credit they deserve. Some in the press and
other media would rather victimise our captain in their seedy little
articles, instead of reporting on how this Celtic team, captained
by Neil Lennon, haven't lost an SPL match since the 6th of August,
are 16 points ahead of the rest and have qualified for the last 16
of the Champions League.
Neil Lennon was sent off in injury time after reacting
under severe provocation from the Falkirk players. They were already
beaten and couldn't accept that Lennon had been fouled in their penalty
box. As soon as, nightmare referee, Iain Brines awarded the penalty,
out came the dummies and the Celtic captain was surrounded and abused
while still on the ground. Even when he tried to get away from it,
he was persued to the centre-circle and surrounded by them again before
Brines caught up with what was happening. What is it about the wee
Irishman that makes the morons in Scottish football hate him so much?
I think we all know the answer to that one. Click here
to see the programme and match details.
On
sale at the match today was issue 151 of the long-running Celtic fanzine,
Not The View. At £1.50, it is great value and a fantastic read.
to see Issue 151 or here
if you would like to see every issue of the fanzine.
.RANGERS SPL19 - 17/12/06
Rangers
managed to scrape a draw at Ibrox when Celtic came visiting today.
The Hoops lead 1-0 through Thomas Graveson until the 88th minute.
Celtic should have had penalty when Smith hacked down Neil Lennon
in the box but Kenny Clark, having a nightmare, 'didn't see it'. This
is a great result for Celtic as it keeps them 16 points ahead of Paul
Le Guen's flops and pushes them into 3rd place in the SPL behind Aberdeen.
Let's hope they stay there! Click here
to see the programme and match details.
.CELTS DRAW ITALIAN
GIANTS - 15/12/06
Celtic
have been paired with AC Milan following the Champions League first
knockout round draw in Nyon today. The first match will be played
at Celtic Park on Tuesday 20 February with the return at the San Siro
in Milan on 7 March. Celtic and Milan last played in the 2004/2005
group phase when Milan won 3-1 at the San Siro and then drew 0-0
at Celtic Park. In 1969 the two played each other in the European
Champions Cup quarter-final. Celtic managed a 0-0 draw in the
San Siro but Piero Prati scored in the return match in Glasgow to
take Milan through to the semi-final. Click this to see the stats
on every Celtic match played in Europe in the last 44 years.
It's bad news for programme collectors. AC Milan will
almost certainly not be issuing a match programme for the tie in the
San Siro as they didn't issue for the other matches against Celtic
in Europe.
.1970 EUROPEAN CUP
FINAL TICKET - 08/12/06
A
mint condition match ticket stub for the 1970 European Cup Final between
Feyenoord and Celtic has sold on ebay for £400. As far as we

Web site. He sells many rare Celtic items, both on ebay and from his
Web site at www.glasgowprogrammes.com. Click here

.LISBON LIONS COLLECTION
- 40TH ANNIVERSARY CARDS

.MANCHESTER UNITED
- CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 21/11/06

beat Manchester United in the Champions League group match 5 at Celtic
Park tonight. The result means that Celtic are the first to qualify

2-3 defeat at Old Trafford in September. Click here

programme and other details.

.INVERNESS CT SPL15
- 18/11/06

It was a bit more difficult than the 3-0 score line suggests but
Celtic did enough to increase their lead on the rest of the SPL pack
today. Dods scored an og for Celtic's first then JVoH added the second
in 72 minutes and Jiri Jarosik scored number three with 5 minutes
to go. Click here
to see the match
programme and other memorabilia for the match.
Not The View had Issue number 150 on sale at the match

nothing .... well, just a wee bit". Wonder who they mean? Click

back in August 1987.
.FALKIRK CIS CUP 4TH
ROUND - 07/11/06
Celtic went out of the CIS League Cup tonight. Falkirk
played well and deserved to go through as the Hoops had an off night.
It was 0-0 at full-time and 1-1 after 30 minutes of extra-time. In
the penalty kick shoot out Falkirk came out on top 4-5. Click here
to see the match programme and details.
.HEARTS SPL13 - 04/11/06
Celtic
recovered from the defeat in Lisbon in midweek and showed Hearts why
we're the champions by coming from behind to win 2-1 to take all three
points in this match. Celtic are now 13 points ahead of Hearts and
a massive 15 better than Polly Gwens Rangers. That French League must
be easy to win! Click this link to see the match
details, programme and ticket.
The latest issue of the popular Celtic fanzine More
than 90 Mins was on sale at this match. Issue 40 is
a major milestone for the fanzine and it is now more than 5 years
since the first issue was sold on September 8 200. Click here

for every issue printed.
.SL BENFICA CHAMPIONS
LEAGUE GROUP F - 01/11/06
Celtic
were brought back down to earth following their 3-0 defeat by Benfica
in Da Luz tonight. Benfica got the revenge they wanted following their
football lesson in Glasgow, two weeks before. Gary Caldwell scored
an o.g. in only 10 minutes, Nuno Gomes added a second 12 minutes later
and Karyaka made the aggregate score 3-3 when he scored Benfica's
third. No official programme was issued for the match but two well-produced
pirates and an official club newspaper were on sale at the match.
details and memorabilia.
OCTOBER 2006

.KILMARNOCK SPL12 -
29/10/06
The
Gers are Blue, the Celts are Green, the league was over before Halloween.
Okay it's not over yet but this weekend's results will go a long way
to deciding the destination of the SPL trophy for 2006/2007. Both
Rangers and Hearts dropped another two vital points as the Hoops won
2-1 at Rugby Park.
Shunsuke Nakamura scored with another sublime free-kick
minutes after Kilmarnock went ahead through Nish and Super Kenny Miller
scored Celtic's second only four minutes after coming off the subs
bench. We wish David Fernandez, who was injured in an accidental clash
with Gary Caldwell, all the best and a speedy recovery. Click this
to see the Kilmarnock
match programme and ticket.
Celtic now head for Lisbon and a point there could
see us qualify from the group stage. Come on the Hoops!!!!
SL BENFICA Champions League Group F Match 3 - 17/10/06

.DUNDEE UNITED SPL10
- 14/10/06
Celtic exploded back to SPL business today at Tannadice
by winning 4-1 after being behind. Shunsuke Nakamura sent a message
to his 'he can't play in away matches' critics by scoring a sensational
hat-trick and Jan Venegoor of Hesselink
returned from injury to score the other one. Celtic are now 10 points
in front of crisis stricken Rangers after they were gubbed by Super
Caley at Ibrox. Polly Gwen must stay! Click here

had another two but was denied on both occassions by ex-Rangers keeper
Jesper Christiansen. Celtic are now in second place in Goup F and

AUGUST 2005
.THE JIMMY JOHNSTONE
REMEMBERENCE BOOK - 26/08/06
The
Jimmy Johnstone Trust was established in early May 2005 to help under-privileged
youngsters become football stars. It is the legacy of Jimmy Johnstone,
one of Celtic and football's greatest ever players, who died on March
2005 at the age of only 61 after a long struggle with motor neurone
