LIVINGSTON PROGRAMMES 2001/2002

18 August 2001

Almondvale Stadium

MIB: H. Dallas

LIVINGSTON (0) versus GLASGOW CELTIC (0)

Team: Douglas, Boyd, Sutton, Mjallby (Tebily), McNamara, Lambert, Lennon, Guppy (Thompson), Hartson, Larsson, Sylla.

Subs: Kharine, Maloney, Crainey, Thompson, Tebily.

LIVINGSTON SPL 18/08/01. Match Programme cost £2.

THE MATCH PROGRAMME

Livingston and Celtic played each other for the first time ever in this match and this programme is the first of its kind. Measuring 170mm by 240mm the programme was available in the usual large numbers and could be bought right up to the kick off outside the ground from some of the most enthusiastic programme sellers in the league. No rain until after the game started.

Cost £2 and has large photographic montage as a background. The colour is mainly livi yellow. Livingston is spread across the top of the page in large, bold capitals. The match details are clearly included down the left hand side along with the numerous match sponsors. Opposite is a large photo of the left half of the First Division Championship trophy won by the club in the previous season.

Like the Celtic match programme, there are 32 pages in this programme and although I think the design of the front cover is very good, my admiration ends there- almost 20 of the 32 pages are used up by adverts.

LIVINGSTON CIS 19/12/01. No new programme was on offer for this rescheduled match. Livingstone issued the same match programme with an insert.

THE INSERT

No programme was issued for the rescheduled match. Instead, Livingston decided to sell off the unsold programmes from the cancelled game and provided an insert as an update. The decision was disappointing and the insert was pathetic - photocopied on a copier running out of toner and guillotined by Stevie Wonder. The print was faded in part and the A4 sheet containing two inserts per page had been cut in half by someone who must have turned up to work minus their specs.

This sort of thing is understandable when a game in cancelled and then rescheduled soon after but Livingstone had three weeks to produce this effort.

Sorry Livi, not good enough!

The insert is single-sided with the Livingston crest and name at the top followed by the match details. The single article is a statement from the Livi manager, Jim Leishman (reproduced below in full).

Finally, it looks like they were trying to fill up the remainder of the space left by the shortness of big Jim's ramblings (not like him) because a copy of the SPL table (not included in the original programme) is included ...... thought this was a cup match.

Below is the entire text from the insert.

CIS Insurance League Cup Quarter Final

Wednesday 19th December 2001 Kick-Off 7.45pm

Welcome back to the West Lothian Courier Stadium where, this evening, we look forward to contesting the CIS Cup, Quarter Final tie originally scheduled for the fateful evening of Wednesday 28th November.

Further complicating matters, this evening's Cup Match usurps the slot previously set-aside as our second SPL league encounter with the hoops. This fixture has now been rescheduled for the evening of Wednesday, 30th January 2002.

However, our next scheduled meeting with Celtic is set for Boxing Day when Livingston make their historic, first trip to 'Fortress' Parkhead.

At the time of writing, a very few tickets are still available from the Club Shop at Livingston.

It's a great pleasure to welcome Martin O'Neill and, the players, Management & Supporters of Celtic FC back to West Lothian for this evenings CIS Cup Quarter Final.

This is a game the fans of both clubs have been looking forward to for some time now and, with the draw for the next stage having already been drawn, both sides know that Rangers await the victors.

Both sides enjoyed wins at the weekend and, similarly, both secured the full complement of points after conceding an opening goal to the opposition. However, league business is on hold as we enjoy the one-off format of the CIS Cup competition and contemplate the opportunity of a trip to Hampden in February.

Enjoy the match,

Jim Leishman
