MATCH PROGRAMME Caley ruined a great week for Celtic fans by knocking us out of the Cup at the Caledonian Stadium tonight. An overpriced, full colour match programme was issued and sold for £1.50. Although it is a nice looking programme on the outside, in the total of thirty two pages, no less than twenty two full pages were adverts. This programme is a first-ever issue - the first competitive match between the two clubs in Inverness since the amalgamation of Caledonian FC and Inverness Thistle to form Inverness Caledonian Thistle. However, before amalgamating, both Caledonian FC and Inverness Thistle played Celtic in a Scottish Cup-tie. Thistle travelled to Celtic Park for a 4th round match in season 1984/85 and lost by 6-0. Celtic issued a programme for the match. The attendance for the Celtic Park match was a pitiful 14,927, Fank McGarvey scored in the ninth minute to open the scoring and his goal was followed by a hat-trick from Paul McStay and one each from that wee shit Johnston and Murdo McLeod. The teams that day were - Celtic: Latchford; W.McStay, McGrain; Grant (Archdeacon), McAdam, O'Leary; Provan, P. McStay, Johnston, McLeod, McGarvey (McInally): Thistle: Fridge; Skinner, Wilson; Sanderson (Fraser), Milroy, Andrew; Black, Hay, MacDonald, Oliver, McLean (Calder). Celtic went on to lift the Scottish Cup at Hampden that season, beating Dundee United 2-1 thanks to goals from wingers Provan and McGarvey. For the Caledonian FC 1st round match, we have to go back to Telford Street, Inverness in the 1929/30 season. Again, Celtic triumphed by 6-0 but no programme was issued.
