The Jersey youth tournament has been taking place since 1999 and is FIFA sanctioned. The first winners were Benfica of Portugal with Manchester United of England runners-up and a Jersey Select team and Glasgow Rangers the other two teams in the four team competition.

The second year (2000/01) saw the teams expanded to six with Blackburn Rovers winning and two other new comers - Chelsea of England and Sporting Lisbon of Portugal making up the numbers.

Celtic's first competed in the 2001/02 tournament along with first timers Barcelona, the eventual winners.

Sunderland compete along with Tottenham Hotspur in 2002/03 for the first time and lifted the trophy from Barcelona, Manchester United, Celtic and Sporting Lisbon.

This season, Boca Juniors of Argentina became the first South American team to compete in the tournament

Celtic U21's went this year's Jersey tournament as double winners having won the the league and cup in season 2002/03. Both trophies can be seen in the photo above.

JERSEY TOURNAMENT LIVE ON THE WEB

If you have a fast Internet connection you can watch the Celtic U21's team play Benfica and Boca Juniors in the 2003 Jersey Football Tournament. Each match is being broadcast by the Jersey Insight Web site. The Celtic youths played Manchester United today (08/08/03) but unfortunately lost 10-11 on penalties in a closely contested match.
