Tommy McDonald was top goalscorer with only 7 league goals (John Paton scored 10 in all competitions) and he was given a free transfer at the end of the season. Celtic finished twelfth in the league, were threatened by relegation and won only 10 of 30 matches. Lows included losing both Rangers matches, defeats to Third Lanark 2-3, 1-5 and 1-3. Jock Weir was signed from Blackburn Rovers and Tommy Keirnam went to Stoke City. The semi-final stage of the Scottish Cup was lost to Greenock Morton and they were knocked out at the section stage of the League Cup but managed a 2-0 victory over Rangers.
