BOGHEAD PARK, DUMBARTON
NO MATCH PROGRAMME
Dumbarton's first-ever floodlit match at Boghead Park drew a crowd of 7,000 despite heavy rain. The new lights were mounted on twelve 30 feet standards either side of the pitch, and costing £5,000 they were thought to be the best in the West of Scotland. Jimmy McGrory said "the lights are very good for the size of ground but I think they would have better effect if they were a little higher." John McPhail scored Celtic's first goal on 12 minutes from a long clearance by Dick Beattie in the Celtic goal. Dumbarton equalised when Bertie Auld laid on a pass for Hugh Gallagher to scored just 3 minutes after the Celts took the lead. Just four minutes later Celtic were three in front with goals from Neily Mochan (twice) and McPhail getting his second. Just before half-time Dumbarton scored their second when again Auld and Gallagher combined for the former to add his and Dumbarton's second goal. Near the end of the match a fifth goal for the bold Celts from Charles Patrick Tully. |
