IN CELEBRATION OF DUTCH WEEK IN GLASGOW

CELTIC F.C. 5 SPARTA ROTTERDAM 1

14 May 1960
Kick-off: 15:00 | Attendance: 27,000 | Referee: J. A. MOWAT (Burnside)

CELTIC PARK, GLASGOW

Sparta came to Glasgow as Champions of Holland for this match. They were not strangers in town having already beaten Rangers at Ibrox in the European Cup some months before. The match was arranged by the Dutch Consulate in Glasgow as part of the celebrations of Dutch Week. The red, white and blue flags of Holland had been flying in the streets of Glasgow, Glasgow parks had been decked out with many tulip gardens, Dutch flower girls were giving out tulips in the city streets and there was the Dutch exhibition at the Kelvin Hall. The current Miss World - Corinne Rotschaeffer - made an appearance to kick-off the match after the crowd had been entertained by the Rotterdam City Police cycle team.
