CELTIC PARK, GLASGOW
This was Celtic's first ever home match in any European Competition. The cup (later became the UEFA Cup) had been in existence for 4 years, previous winners were Barcelona twice, Birmingham City and Valencia. Valencia were the holders of the trophy beating Barcelona 7-3 on aggregate in the 1961/62 Final. The club successfully defended the trophy in 62/63, defeating Jock Stein's Dunfermline and Hibernian on the way to Dynamo Zagrb in the final. Valencia managed to reach the third final in a row the following season but failed to complete the hat-trick of titles, losing 2-1 to Zaragoza. |
