Ron Yeats was born in Aberdeen and played for Dundee United from 1957 until 1961 when he was signed for Livepool by manager Bill Shankly for £22,000. Although he was capped only twice for Scotland, he played 454 for the famous Reds and won many honours (including promotion to the 1st division in his first season) at centre-half and left-back with Liverpool before leaving in December 1972 to become player/assistant manager of Tranmere Rovers. He went on to play over 100 times at Prenton Park. He is currently (2008) back working as a scout for the English giants and has been since 1986. Bobby Charlton guested for Celtic and scored the first goal. He was manager of Preston North End at the time.
