Charlie Nicholas' last competative match for Celtic as he soon went to Arsenal for £750,000. Nicholas scored 29 times for Celtic in the League and 17 in cup ties. He was voted Player of the Year.
Billy McNeill quit as manager to go south and manage Manchester City. McNeill won three League Championships, one Scottish Cup and one League Cup during this stint as Celtic manager. He returned in 1987/88 season to guide Celtic to a League and Cup double in the club's centenary season.
