CELTIC F.C. 1 PARMA FC 1

Saturday July 26 1997
Kick-off: 15.00 | Attendance: 29,798 | Referee: W. YOUNG (Clarkston)

CELTIC PARK, GLASGOW

Before this game started Wim Jansen paraded his new signing to the Celtic faithful. It was the fans' first glimpse of our new striker - Henrik Edward Larsson. The future King of Kings walked out to the centre-circle and waved to the 30,000 fans that attended that sunny Saturday. Little did we know. The following Sunday (03/08/97) he made his debut at Easter Road wearing number 28 on the back of his 'bumble-bee' away strip, coming on as a sub for Andreas Thom in the 57th minute. Celtic lost the match 2-1, big Malky MacKay scored the Celtic goal and was voted man-of-the-match. The one thing that everyone remembers about the dreadlock debut was that Henrik blundered by setting up Chic Charnley to score the winning goal for the Hibees. His first mistake and his last!
