WORLD SOCCER
July 1967

The magazine below was printed in July 1967. It pictures the Celtic squad for 1966/67, the one that had just become the first non-Latin winners of the European Cup. Before Celtic, only Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Benfica and AC Milan had won the famous trophy. Some of Europe's finest attacking teams had fallen to the champions of the ultra-defensive catenaccio system but Inter had never had to play against the all-out attacking style of Celtic before and just couldn't handle it.

It is no wonder then that World Soccer gave Celtic this compliment of adorning their front cover for this issue. Inside the Letter sized magazine, there are 44 pages, the middle two pages contain an article on the final written by Roger MacDonald and photographs of both Celtic goals.

"Inter Milan, for many the Mecca of modern football, were outplayed, outmanoeuvred, outwitted by a team with equal skill" writes the author of the article. Later, and in a very prophetic statement, Jock Stein says "Now that the stranglehold of the Latins has been broken, there will be further success for other British sides, possibly for Manchester United" - Manchester United won the trophy the very next season.
