CELTIC FC FIXTURES and RESULTS 2010/2011

MAY 2011

MOTHERWELL SPL38 - 15/05/2011

Hero Neil Lennon stood on the Celtic Park pitch at the end of today's game against Motherwell and told almost 60,000 Celtic fans "This isn't the end, this is just the beginning". His rousing speech had everyone wanting more. More of his team, more of his brand of football and more of him as manager of our great football club. The team was rampant winning the last SPL match of season 4-0 with goals from Hooper, Samaras, Maloney and McCourt. For his first season as a manager, Neil Lennon has done well taking the league to the last day of the season, a league cup final and next week's Scottish Cup final against Motherwell to enjoy. God bless and protect him from the bigots and morons that are out to do him harm! Programme, ticket and match stats.

HEARTS SPL37 - 11/05/2011

Neil Lennon was attacked at his dugout by a bigoted moron as he watched his team dish out a total gubbing to Hearts in tonight's SPL match at the sicko dome. Gary Hooper struck twice and Kris Commons added a third to bring his goals total for the season to an amazing 27 (13 with Derby County). Programme, ticket and match stats.

RANGERS GLASGOW CUP FINAL - 09/05/2011

Celtic Under 17's beat Rangers 1-0 at Celtic park in the City of Glagow Cup final on Monday night. A goal by striker Paul George early in the second-half ensured a clean sweep of the trophies available to Celtic's talented development squad. Match programme, ticket and match stats here.

LATEST CELTIC FANZINES - 06/05/2011

Not The View issue 195As usual the guys that make Celtic fanzines have been buzy making their latest issues. Celtic supporters are lucky to have as many fanzines dedicated to their club as these magazines are almost the only way that you can read the truth about Celtic, Neil Lennon, bigotry, bombs, bullets and the spin from the Scottish press and footballing authorities.

go to the 67 WebsiteBy our count, there are now seven paper-based fanzines on the go. That number increased last month when Issue 1 of a new monthly Celtic fanzine called 67 appeared. It looks like this fanzine has its roots in the WWW and actually started when Issue 0 was trialed as a free PDF download from the 67 Website. Having now read issues 0, 1 and 2 it is a very worthy addition, is well produced and like the others makes very interesting reading. Well done to the Bhoys and Ghirls at 67 and we look forward to your next issue. Click here for our 67fanzine page.

So far, other issues for the month of May are Issue 195 of Not The View and Issue 118 of the peerless Alternative View.

INVERNESS SPL31 - 04/05/2011

Celtic blew the chance to go top of the SPL tonight in Inverness. Shambolic defending, mediocre performances all through the team and an ICT team playing well were the main factors in the 3-2 defeat and the loss of three precious points in the race for the championship. Celtic, one point behind, now need to beat Kilmarnock and Hearts away and Motherwell at home while hoping that Rangers draw one of their remaining games - Hearts and Dundee United at home and Kilmarnock away. Programme, ticket and match stats.

DUNDEE UNITED SPL35 - 01/05/2011

One down four to go in the race for the SPL title. Celtic thumped Dundee Utd 4-1 today at Celtic Park before almost 50,000 fans to stay one point behind the Dark Force with a game in hand. Programme, ticket and match stats.

APRIL 2011

RANGERS SPL YOUTH CUP FINAL - 27/04/2011

10,000 fans saw Celtic youths beat their Rangers counterparts 2-1 at Hampden tonight to add the SPL Youth Cup to the Under-19 league title they won on Saturday. In the second period of extra-time, Liam Gormley on for Patrik Twardzik scored the winner with his first kick of the ball. Let's hope the big team win their own double as well. Programme, ticket and match stats.

RANGERS SPL34 - 24/04/2011

Neil Lennon: Celtic to the CoreNeil Lennon and his hooped heroes went to Ibrox today and got a draw that kept them on course for the SPL title and sent the great Celtic support home happy. The final score was 0-0 but Celtic would have won the match if not for a late penalty miss by Samaras and a couple of last-gasp saves by McGregor in the Rangers goal. Neil lennon remains unbeaten at Ibrox and has a chance of a league and cup double in his first season as Celtic manager. Programme, ticket and match stats here.

KILMARNOCK SPL25 - 20/04/2011

Hearts have two games remaining - Rangers (h) and Celtic (a), Celtic have St Mirren, Inverness and Motherwell away and Hearts at home. Good luck in the remaing games Bhoys!

HIBERNIAN SPL30 - 06/04/2011

INVERNESS C.T. SPL31 - 02/04/2011

Postponed - Inverness CT v Celtic SPL31 02/04/2011Celtic's SPL match with Inverness was called off today at the last minute because of a waterlogged pitch. A pitch inspection was arranged for 9.30am when referee Craig Thompson declared the pitch unplayable. The decision was announced at 10am but two late for the thousands of Celtic fans already on the way and hundreds that had already arrived at the stadium. That's not the fault of Inverness C.T. but blame must be directed at the people that allow such a late pitch inspection to take place. If they want to accept TV money and their ridiculous match kick-off times then they should arrange for the referee to be there the night before the match so that any decision about whether a match can go on or not can be made as soon as daylight allows. It's not just the inconvenience of a long journey wasted but the expense of that journey for the ordinary fans and, the fact that they will have to make that journey again and pay the price once more (god knows when but Thursday 14 April seems most likely) . Suites wise up or the fans will walk. Click here to see the match programme and ticket.

Finn Harpa John Kennedy Testimonial 06/03/2011The postponed testimonial against Finn Harps for big John Kennedy has finally taken place.Celtic took a strong team to Ireland to honour the ex-Celt who was injured in his International debut for Scotland and was forced to retire after several failed operations to restore his shattered knee. Three second-half goals from Efraín Juárez, Daryl Murphy (2) and James Forrest gave Celtic a 4-1 victory over the Airtricity League of Ireland side played at Finn Park in Ballybofey. Johan Mjällby took charge for the friendly following death threats aimed at Celtic manager Neil Lennon in the week leading up to the match. Finn Harps issued a new programme from the one issued for the postoned match back in November 2010. A crowd over just over 1,200 attended the testimonial match. Match stats and programme here.

CELTIC POSTER BHOYS MAGAZINE ISSUE 1 - FEB 2011

Celtic Poster Bhoys magazine, Issue 1Celtic Poster Bhoys is a new poster magazine for young Celtic fans. The first issue was available from around the middle of february 2011 and cost £3. Inside are colour glossy posters of most of the Celtic first team (including Shaun Maloney - yes he's still at Celtic Park). The magazine has 23 posters of different sizes plus two giant pull-out photographs in the middle pages. Only two of the pages are used for adverts, one for the young Hoops Club and another for subscriptions to the Celtic View magazine. The official Celtic website say "Celtic Poster Bhoys is a brand new official magazine packed with posters of all your Celtic heroes" and that it is "the ONLY poster magazine that comes direct from YOUR club". How long it will last is anybody's guess but it will all depend on how popular it becomes and many copies are sold. There is no attempt to sell subscriptions to the magazine at the moment and no indication that it will be a monthly or quarterly issue. Again, it looks like this will depend on sales. RANGERS SCOTTISH CUP - 06/02/2011

Celtic drew 2-2 with the forces of darkness in the 5th round of the Scottish Cup today. Rangers took the lead through Ness in only 3 minutes. The Celts poured on the pressure and equalised through derby debutant Kris Commons in the 16th minute. For the rest of the half Celtic played all the football but the home team held out until almost half-time when they were awarded their obligatory penalty when Naismith fell in the box and touched the diving Celtic goalie on the way down. 2-1 down and the Celtic goalie sent off when it should only have been a yellow as Naismith had already lost control of the ball and his chance to score. Despite being a man down Celtic started the second half the way they played the first 45 minutes and soon equalised with a 20 yard cracker from their captain Scott Brown. On it went with Rangers looking like they were a man down instead of Celtic. Fifteen minutes from the end Naismith was red carded for another dive to trick the ref and gain a penalty and will miss the replay set for March 2. Time to give Neil Lennon a longer contract!!!!! Match stats and programme here.

JANUARY 2011

ABERDEEN LEAGUE CUP SEMI-FINAL 29/01/2011

Celtic v Aberdeen League Cup Semi-Final 29/01/2011Celtic are through to the League Cup final after a 4-1 win against Aberdeen at Hampden Park. 38,085 fans saw Celtic's new signing Kris Commons give the Celts a 1-0 lead after only 6 minutes and he was given the man-of-the-match award at the end. Just 4 minutes later the semi-final was ended as a contest as Charlie Mulgrew leaped high above the Dons defence to head in Celtic's second goal. Thomas Rogne and Anthony Stokes added two more goals for Celtic before the 35 minutes mark and it was all over. Celtic took off Rogne early in the second-half sufferring from a slight thigh strain, brought on Mexican World Cup star Efráin Juárez at right-back and moved Mark Wilson to centre-half. Match stats and programme here.

HEARTS SPL24 26/01/2011

HEARTS SPL24 26/01/2011A stunning strike by James forrest put Celtic 1-0 up in just 7 minutes in this SPL match at Celtic Park. Forrest went off injured just 13 minutes later and was replaced by Paddy McCourt. Celtic suffered the usual incompetent decisions by Scottish referees in the first half. Referee Norris booked Mark Wilson for getting to the ball first in an early tackle while he let Rudi Skacel away with four fouls before finally booking the hearts player for his fifth and just before half-time he let the same player away with tugging the jersey of a Celtic player to stop an attack. Figure that out! The second-half started the way of the first, Iziguirre had his jersey tugged in another of his driving attacks and Anthony Stokes blasted the free-kick into the Hearts net. That was the Gorgie gas on a peep and Celtic drove forward for more goals. The third was added by Anthony Stokes on 71 minutes and Paddy McCourt added a fourth with ten minutes to go, his sixth goal of the season. Match stats and programme here.

ABERDEEN SPL23 - 22/01/2011

Celtic beat Aberdeen 1-0 at Celtic Park today to take full advantage of Rangers' defeat by Hearts in the early kick-off at Tynecastle. The hoops are now 5 points ahead at the top of the SPL. Anthony Stokes scored the vital goal, his fourth in three games and twelfth since his debut in mid-September. Match stats and programme here.

BERWICK RANGERS SCOTTISH CUP - 09/01/2011

Celtic are through to Round 5 of the Scottish cup. Goals from Danny Majstorovic and Scott Brown ensured a 2-0 victory for the hoops at Shielfield Park. Match stats and programme here.

RANGERS SPL21 - 02/01/2010

Neil Lennon's tactics and a brilliant performance from the team saw Celtic dominate today's match from start to finish. Two second-half goals from Georgios Samaras gave Celtic the victory and all three points in the New Year Glasgow Derby at Ibrox. Celtic are now top of the league by 4 points and we plan to stay there! Match stats here.

MOTHERWELL SPL20 29/12/2010

Celtic went top of the SPL today thanks to a 1-0 win over Motherwell in the final match of 2010. The victory was thanks to another Paddy McCourt special scored in the 27th minute. Rangers didn't play so Celtic move one point in front but have played two more games than their rivals. Match stats here.

ST JOHNSTONE SPL19 26/12/2010

ST JOHNSTONE SPL19 29/12/2010Celtic's beat St Johnstone 2-0 at Celtic Park today but left it very late, scoring twice in added time. The first came from Cha Du-Ri with a shot from outside the box that was in the net the moment the ball left his boot. That moment was in the 91st minute and two minutes later his fellow countryman Ki Sung-yueng added a second that was even better. Celtic now have to do without the two North Koreans for much of January as both are away on international duty for their country in the Asian Cup. Match stats here.

NOVEMBER 2010

JOHN KENNEDY TESTIMONIAL POSTPONED 28/11/2010

JOHN KENNEDY TESTIMONIAL POSTPONED 28/11/2010The match between Finn Harps and Celtic for the John Kennedy testimonial match has been postponed because of bad weather. Celtic were due to fly to Ireland on Saturday night for the match on Sunday but were unable to fly out of Glasgow airport. This will disappoint the fans in Ireland that were looking forward to seeing the Celtic first team play in the Republic. Celtic have promised to rearrange the match at the earliest opportunity with details appearing on the Finn Harps Website as soon as it happens. A programme was published for the postponed match but only a few were saved from the mulcher. Here's one of the survivors.

INVERNESS CT SPL15 27/11/2010

INVERNESS CT SPL15 27/11/2010Celtic drew 2-2 with ICT at Celtic Park today and missed the chance to go top of the SPL. Ki Sung Yeung scored first before sub Paddy McCourt made it two when he scored Celtic's 600th goal in the SPL since it's inception (current format) in 1998. One other remarkable point about this match was that it was the first time that a Celtic league game was refereed by an official from another country. Referee Alain Hamer from Luxembourg was drafted in by the SFA when Scottish referees went on strike because some of them have been caught lying about events in a Celtic match and another had allegedly been sending sick and sectarian emails using his official SFA email account. They really are a shameless lot and others should join Hugh Dallas by resigning right now! Although it was a disappointing result for Celtic it was great to have a referee that was competent, fair and didn't hate the green and white. Match stats here.

FEYENOORD EUROPEAN CUP FINAL 1970

FEYENOORD EUROPEAN CUP FINAL 1970A Celtic collector has made a programme for the 1970 European Cup final between Celtic and Feyenoord to fill a gap in his collection. As even novice collectors will know, no official programme was issued for this match. Incredible? Yes! Not incredible that a collector has decided to make one 40 years later but that UEFA once allowed this to happen, At almost the same time he thought that maybe other collectors may want a copy of his programme so he has printed a limited edition of 100 and intends to sell them on ebay. If you manage to buy one of these programmes, the seller will donate 20% of the final price to Motor Neurone Disease Scotland. The excellent A5 size programme is professionaly produced, has 12 pages and includes a double-sided coloured glossy insert with details of the game. Click here to see the programme for sale on ebay. You can also make an offer by emailing John Paul on jpaird@sky.com.

CELTIC V RANGERS IN THE SCOTTISH CUP 22/11/2010

Celtic have been drawn with Berwick Rangers in round 4 of the Scottish Cup. The match goes ahead at Berwick's 4,131 capacity Shielfield Park on either Saturday the 8th of January or Sunday the 9th, depending on which matches are selected to be televised: the BBC has the option to show one match and SKY will show two but there has been no agreement on which yet. The Borderers are managed by Jimmy Crease and are currently in 4th position in the Scottish Football League Division 3.

ALTERNATIVE VIEW ISSSUE 112 12/11/2010

ALTERNATIVE VIEW ISSUE 112 12/11/2010Issue 112 of the Alternative View Celtic fanzine is out for subscribers and will be on sale at the SPL match against St Mirren on Sunday. As you can see from the image on the left, the front page headline is "2 LIARS AND A SICKO". The "2 liars" are Dougie McDonald and Steven Craven who lied about a decision during the recent Dundee Utd v Celtic match in Dundee. The "Sicko" is Hugh Dallas who has allegedly sent an email using his official SFA email account containing an image that trivialises child abuse by making it into a joke. The article that goes with the headline makes fantastic reading and exposes the guilty for what they are. The Scottish press would like us to think that this is an isolated incident but one question we all want to know the answer to is how many other lies have Celtic suffered from in the past?

Click here to read a part of the article. The Alternative View is now on Facebook.

DEDICATED TO A HERO OF WW2 - WILLIAM ANGUS V.C.

This is William Angus signed for Celtic in 1911 and played for the team during seasons 1912-13 and 1913-14 became the first ever Scottish Territorial soldier to win the Victoria Cross. Click here to go to a Web site dedicated to his life.

William Angus VC is the most famous son of Carluke, a small town in Lanarkshire, Scotland. On leaving school he was employed as a miner, but escaped the rigours of that work when his soccer abilities led to him joining Glasgow Celtic as a professional footballer. As he struggled to gain a place in the strong Celtic team of that time, his sporting days were interrupted by the outbreak of war.

William Angus won the Victoria Cross for valour when saving a fellow soldier under almost unbelievable danger and this Web site is dedicated to his memory.

HEARTS SPL13 10/11/2010

HEARTS SPL13 10/11/2010Celtic lost 2-0 to Hearts, Neil Lennon was sent to the stands by another easily offended 4th official and Joe Ledley was sent off by blunder referee Craig Thomson in a night of high-drama at Tynecastle. Celtic went behind on the half-hour mark to what must be regarded as an own goal by Danny Majstorovic but was mysteriously awarded to Black of Hearts who's weak shot was headed over the advancing Celtic keeper by the Celtic centre-half. Next, Joe Ledley was sent off for what must be one of the best tackles ever seen at that park and shortly after that Celtic lost another when caught short at the back. Celtic should have been given the chance to get back into the match when a Hearts defender clearly handled the ball in the box but to the surprise of everyone at the match, on television and on radio neither Craig Thomson or his assistant referee saw the blatant infringement. Another honest mistake?

ABERDEEN SPL11 06/11/2010

ABERDEEN SPL11 06/11/2010 Hoops heroes Henrik Larsson, Lubo Moravcik and Chris Sutton watched from the stand as Celtic set an SPL record score by beating Abedeen 9-0 at Celtic Park today. The game had just about everything to entertain the 47,000 fans braving a cold and wet Parkhead including two hat-tricks (from Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes), three penalties, two ordering offs, an Aberdeen own-goal, some great anti-SFA banners before the match from the Green Brigade and not a white lie in sight.

OCTOBER 2010

ST JOHNSTONE SPL10 30/10/2010

ST JOHNSTONE SPL10 30/10/2010Naill McGinn notched up a brace and Emilio Izaguirre scored his first Celtic goal in a 3-0 win at McDairmid Park today. St Johnstone will be glad to see the back of Celtic after losing 6 goals in 4 days to the green and white. Neil Lennon dropped Glenn Loovens for young Norwegian Thomas Rogne at centre-back and the team looked better for it. Ki Sung-Yeung continues to improve and had a fine match in the midfield alongside the classy Joe Ledley. Click this to see the programme, ticket and match stats.

ST JOHNSTONE CO-OP CUP 27/10/2010

ST JOHNSTONE CO-OP CUP 27/10/2010Celtic reached the semi-final of the Co-operative Insurance Cup tonight at McDairmid Park. Two goals from Anthony Stokes and another from Naill McGinn made sure the Celts joined Rangers, Aberdeen and Motherwell in the semi-final draw to be made on Friday. Click this to see the programme, ticket and match stats.

Update: Celtic will play Aberdeen in the semi final of the Co-operative Insurance League Cup at Hampden on the weekend of January 29/30 2011. The scheduled Clydesdale Bank SPL match with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park is postponed to a later date tbc.

RANGERS SPL9 - 24/10/2010

RANGERS SPL9 - 24/10/2010Celtic lost their first SPL match since Neil Lennon became manager back in March 2010. In the showdown match against Rangers things started well as Celtic took a 1-0 lead into half-time through a Gary Hooper goal scored just before the break. In the second-half everything changed and a catalogue of defensive errors and another honest mistake by another Scottish referee allowed Rangers to ease to an easy 3-1 victory and the top of the SPL league table. Click this to see the programme, ticket and match stats.

DUNDEE UNITED SPL8 - 17/10/2010

DUNDEE UNITED SPL8 - 17/10/2010Neil Lennon's Celtic beat Dundee United in the Sunday SPL match at Tannadice today. That's a run of eight league victories in a row for the new Celtic manager and preserves his 100% record in the SPL. Include the same from the tail-end of last season and that adds up to an amazing record for the Irishman. The scoring for Celtic was started and ended by new signing Gary Hooper, one in each half of the match in this crucial 2-1 win. This victory keeps Celtic on equal points with league leaders Rangers but with a goal fewer on goal average. With the first Derby match looming this Sunday at Celtic Park everything is set up for one crazy afternoon in Paradise. Click this to see the programme, ticket and match stats.

SEPTEMBER 2010

INVERNESS C.T. CO-OP LEAGUE CUP 22/09/2010

INVERNESS C.T. CO-OP LEAGUE CUP 22/09/2010Celtic are through to the quarter-final of the League Cup. The hoops continued their good league form into the cup by beating Inverness Caledonian Thistle 6-0 at Celtic Park tonight. The 17,500 fans that turned up to watch in torrential rain saw an exiting and entertaining match that had Celtic scoring for fun. Georgios Samaras hit a hat-trick, Gary Hooper returned from injury and scored and new bhoy Anthony Stokes scored two, one from the penalty spot. This was one that Celtic were never going to lose and it gave Neil Lennon a chance to give some fringe players a go in the first team. The draw for the quarter-final stage will be made tomorrow at 2.30pm in the SFA Headquarters at Hampden Park. Click this to see the programme, ticket and match stats.

KILMARNOCK SPL5 - 19/09/2010

Kilmarnock v Celtic SPL5 - 19/09/2010Celtic came from behind to win 2-1 at Rugby Park today. Neil Lennon's team lost it's first league goal of the season when Kilmarnock went ahead in the 7th minute through Conor Sammon but when Stokes was up-ended by Wright in the Kilmarnock box in the 41st minute, Daryl Murphy stepped up to equalise from the penalty spot. Shortly after the break, Anthony Stokes put Celtic ahead, scoring his first goal in the hoops since moving from Hibs. That's five victories in a row now for Neil Lennon's team to make it the best start in the league for over a century.

HEARTS SPL4 - 11/09/2010

Celtic v Hearts SPL4 11/09/10Celtic made it four SPL wins in a row without losing a single goal when they destroyed Hearts at Celtic Park today. Goals from James Forrest, Shaun Maloney and Paddy McCourt keep Celtic at the top of the league. Before the match, players and fans held a one minute's applause in honour of the immortal Jock Stein who died managing Scotland to the World Cup finals on September 10 1985. It is 25 years since that terrible night in Cardiff and we still miss him. The Green Brigade must be congratulated for the special display of banners and singing in honour of the first British manager to win the European Cup and set a World record of 9 league titles in row. God bless. Click this for the programme and match stats.

AUGUST 2010

ST MIRREN SPL2 - 22/08/2010

Celtic v St Mirren SPL2 22/08/10Celtic beat St Mirren 4-0 today at Celtic Park. Goals from Joe Ledley, Shaun Maloney, Jamie Forrest and late sub Ki Sung-Yeung sealed the victory for Neil Lennon's side that takes them to joint top spot with Aberdeen in the SPL. Celtic were on fire for most of the match and looked like a team for the first time this season. The defence looked much better with Efráin Juárez and Joe Ledley filling in as full-backs and Daniel Majstorovic and Jos Hooiveld in the centre. Scott Brown and man-of-the-match Beram Kayal ran the midfield as Celtic launched attack after attack on the Saints goal. The score was 4-0 but could easily have been more with Celtic hitting the St Mirren woodwork at least four times. Neil Lennon has now won 10 SPL games in a row since taking over from Tony Mowbray last season and his team are beginning to look like winners. Click this for the programme and match stats.

INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE SPL1 - 14/08/2010

Inverness CT v Celtic 14/08/2010Celtic got their league campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 win at the Caledonian Stadium today. Game one in the SPL and already Paddy McCourt has scored what could be the goal of the entire season. In a George Best-like dribble he picked up the ball outside the Caley box, beating several defenders before slamming a shot past the helpless keeper to give the hOOps the lead and the three points. Celtic's latest signing Beram Kayal was on the bench but didn't get on. Unlike almost every other game this pre-season, there were no debuts in this game but Celtic wore their new fluorescent green away strip for the first time. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR CELTIC VIEW - 11/08/2010

The Celtic View, Volume 46, issue 4The Celtic View is 45 years old today. Issue 1 appeared on 11 August 1965 and was the first football magazine in Great Britain dedicated to one football team, the football team. It was a far cry from today's glossy publication being printed in newspaper style black and white with a spot of emerald green.. Although it went glossy and more colourful in the 1984/85 season the newspaper style and size remained until 1997/98 with a certain Henrik Larsonn on the front cover, when it changed to the magazine style that we buy today. This issue includes a feature on the 45 year old history of the View that is a reflection of the story of Celtic Football Club through these years. From 1965 the View has reported on the European triumphs of the Lisbon Lions including the European Cup victory in 1967 and the loss to Feyenoord in 1970, Nine-in-a Row, the League and Cup victories of the 80's and the Centenary Double, the signing of Henrik Larsonn and his tearful last game in the Hoops, Martin O' Neill's Treble winning first season and the 6-2 Demolition Derby, a statue erected to our Founding Father outside Celtic Park and the death of a football genius voted Celtic's Greatest Player, Jimmy Johnstone. SC BRAGA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - 04/08/2010

Celtic v SC Braga programmeCeltic beat SC Braga 2-1 in tonight's Champions League qualifier but it wasn't enough to overcome the 1st leg 3-0 defeat suffered in Portugal last week. The last thing Celtic needed was Braga to score first but that's what happened in the 20th minute when most of the Celtic defence were drawn out of the box, Alan crossed for Cesar to outjump Cha and head the ball into the net. Celtic hit back in the second-half, Neil Lennon brought on Marc-Antoine Fortune and moved Samaras up front with Hooper. Fortune made an almost immediate impact when he set up Gary Hooper for his first ever European goal in the 51st minute. Next it was Samaras' turn to be the provider, this time it was Efrain Juarez turn to score his first European goal and put Celtic 2-1 up on the night. Celtic battered the opponents goal for the rest of the match but the Braga defence stood resolute and survived to win the tie 4-2 on aggregate. Celtic now drop into the Europa Cup and face a qualifier to reach the group stages. Click to see the programme, ticket, teamsheet and match stats.

ARSENAL F.C. EMIRATES CUP - 01/08/2010

Arsenal survived a late comeback by Celtic to win the Emirates Cup today. The London club were 3-0 up with just a little more than 15 minutes left in the match when Georgios Samaras managed to miss a penalty after Marc Antoinne Fortune was held in the box. On 73 minutes Daryl Murphy scored his first goal for the hOOps (not counting the one scored for a Celtic XI in Lincoln) to bring Celtic back into the game and Ki Sung-Yueng added a second with seven minutes remaining. For the remainder of the match Neil Lennon's team played with character and style trying to get an equaliser that would have meant that Celtic would be the tournament winners but, despite a couple of near things, could not manage it. Cmon the hOOps! Click this to see the programme and match stats for Arsenal v Celtic.

JULY 2010

OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS EMIRATES CUP - 31/07/2010

Lyon v CelticCeltic produced their best display of the season so far by drawing 2-2 with Lyon in the Emirates Cup today. The hoops were two down to last year's Champions League semi-finalists but a better performance in the second-half coupled with a goal from debut bhoy Gary Cooper in the 82nd minute and another from Georgios Samaras in the last minute means that they sit on top of the tournament group after the first round of matches. Celtic looked a lot better with Cooper up front and McGeady back in the team. Young Jamie Forrest produced a man-of-the-match performance for Celtic and set up Cooper for Celtic's first goal with a great run up the right wing and an inch perfect cross to pick out the front man to hit his first ever goal in the hOOps. Right at the end Celtic were awarded a free kick outside the Lyon box, Charlie Mulgrew sent over the perfect cross and Samaras was there to head the ball past the Lyon keeper. Both teams got a point for the draw and another for each goal scored. Celtic sit top because they hit more shots on target than Lyon did. In the later game Arsenal and AC Milan drew 1-1. Celtic play Arsenal tomorrow in a 4.20 pm Kick-off. Click this to see the programme and match stats for Celtic v Lyon.
